Anyone from Queens

Recommended Posts

Yeah I was REALLY hungery as soon as the swelling went down. Folks say that it very common. I've been told that until you get proper restriction your stomach is pretty much they way it was before the band. Just up your Protein and find things to nosh on...my personal favorite is sugar free popscicles (sp?) and pumpkin seed (they are very time consuming to eat) and drink plenty of Water.< /p>

Hi Everyone,

I am from Queens as well. I was banded by Dr Davis and am three weeks post op. I am still in the pureed stage. One more week! Yeah! I am having horrible pain in my left side by my waist area and will be going to have a CAT scan to rule out a leak. Otherwise I am feeling great...a bit slow in having enough Water intake. I am due to have my first fill in a few weeks as well. :frown:

Much success to all of you!

Hey - you will be brought into hospital area with any friend or family that is with you - get undressed and sit in private room and hang out for a few - then you walk to OR and hop up on table - staff is so calming - doc comes in and last thing you remember till you wake up - they ask if you are jittery and will give you Xanax in IV if you want - then sleepy time again till you wake in room - an overnite stay in a room with a great view of the city - next morning off you go - really they have it down to a science they have done so very many - it is best thing ever

Hi Justice,

I've met Dr. Kurian, she is very nice and is also a well-respected surgeon. She may not have told you, but she wrote "Lap Band for Dummies." It's available on Amazon.< /p>

I think they keep nearly everyone overnight at NYU. I've heard of some people going home same day, but if you have any serious co-morbidities (and most of us do), they'll want you to stay. Particularly if you have sleep apnea, they'll want you on a CPAP and hooked up to monitors overnight. They generally release everyone fairly early the next morning. Anne or one of the doctors will come around to go over your discharge plan and then they'll let you leave.

Be sure to either bring a small pillow with you or have the nurse make a cushion for your belly. You'll need it when you cough. It's also good on the ride home if you hit any bumps in the road. Applying some gentle pressure on the incisions keeps the pain down.

My experience has been a bit out of the ordinary, but I"m happy to answer any questions, too. I've also written quite a bit about my banding on my blog, The link is below. There are a few "before and after photos, too.

Best regards,

I've met Dr. Kurian a couple of times. I think very highly of her. I hope everything is going well with your recovery. I didn't make it to the support group meeting tonight, but I hope I'll meet you there next month.

Hi:

I'm from North Flushing. I was banded two days ago. Besides the gas pains and mild discomfort at incision sites, I feel pretty good. Having a hard time drinking 60 ounces or Water. I wish you well and thin.:)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
