Question for those with office type jobs

Recommended Posts

For those with low impact desk type jobs, how long were you off for surgery? What is the minimum time you could have returned to work? When were you able to do moderate activities like house cleaning? TIA :-)

I am an underwriter at a life insurance company so basically I sit all all day. I asked my doctor how long he thought I should take off, and he said one week. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and went back not the following Monday, but the Monday after. So I took off about a week and a half, but that was only because I had enough vacation time to do so. I would have been fine going back that next Monday. Hope that helps! ☺

I took three weeks off. I probably could have gone back after about 10 days - and certainly by two weeks, but I developed hives the third week (not sure what from), so I was glad I'd arranged to take three weeks off because I would have ended up taking that long *anyway* (the hives might have been unrelated to the surgery - we're not really sure what caused them)

My doctor said that I could go back whenever I felt I could.

I was sleeved on weds and went back to work the following monday. I worked 4 hours a day for mon, tues, weds and 6 hours a day thur, fri. I was back to full time the following monday. I could have worked full time by the weds (1 week) but I had the sick time and was being lazy.

I am the accounts payable department at a solar company.

hi! I have a desk job

I had my bypass on 10/26. I am off work until 12/12. I am positive I could go back earlier but I'm getting paid while off so I'm treating this as a mini vacation. I have been up and moving since I have been home...dishes, laundry, vacuuming etc. I have grocery shopped too. I feel great. I'm wondering when I can begin working out...besides walking.

I had surgery on Wednesday, took off Thursday. Fridays are company- wide work from home days, so I worked about half a day and half on Saturday. I was back at the office on Monday. Technically, I only took two days off. I was tired, but felt fine.

However, I had no comorbidities and no complications. So it was a really easy surgery for me.

I went back to work after a week. I worked from home week 2 because there is a hilly walk and standing and jostling on transit for my trip. Didn't want to deal with that 1 week after surgery.

My surgeon made me take two weeks off (because I wasn't "supposed" to drive). I was able to telework for those two weeks and yesterday was my first day back in the office. I have a lift restriction or 10 lbs or less. I have been lifting more that that but I am careful not to over do it.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
