I'm 9 months post op. I started at 313lbs and currently weigh 184lbs. I'm stuck! I haven't lost in almost 2 months. Should I be worried?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

There are two stages to RNY gastric bypass surgery. The first is the "weight loss" phase and the second is the "maintenance" phase. I had RNY surgery 3 years ago. I transition into the maintenance phase around the 7th month. This article describes my experience in the maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf

if you're not ready to stop losing, you could drop your calories a bit, exercise more, or just change things up. On the other hand, if you like where you're at, you can always stay there...

This is where the heavy lifting comes in (pardon the pun). Most people lose on average 70% of their excess weight during the honeymoon period.

My surgeon made it very clear that if I intended to lose it all (and I did) that I would have to work very hard after things slowed down or stopped.

I lost 100lbs in the first 9 months, stalled for over a month and then things slowed to a crawl. It took alot of hard work and 9 more months to lose my last 52lbs and honestly the last 20 were pure torture.....or so I thought.

Getting to maintenance and staying there has been challenging for me. I gain and lose 5 to 7 pounds constantly. I totally understand it is up to me and have to bust my butt to stay below my goal. I am fighting that 10 to 15% regain with everything I have.

It can be done, you just have to stick to the plan and work through it one day at a time. Many are just happy with where they end up. For me, I want to stay where I am....at or slightly below my goal.

Then again, my biggest fear is regain. It has happened to me so many times in my life.

I had the same experience as djmohr. I started out at 373. It was fairly easy to get down to 200, and I probably could have stayed there without a huge amount of effort, but that wasn't good enough for me. I wanted to get down to a normal BMI. And like djmohr's surgeon, my surgeon said that would take *a lot* of work and dedication - and it has. And I know it'll be a struggle to keep myself there - weighing and measuring and logging everything for the rest of my life. But I'm willing to do it to stay where I am!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
