New sleeved needs help!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was sleeved on 11/01 and I'm afraid it failed. I can drink premiere Proteins and liquids, cream Soups and even had a pudding cup and haven't felt a full feeling at all. I'm so nervous that it didn't work for me. Has anyone else had this happen and still lost weight and the sleeve worked?

liquids, puddings... Etc. will go right through your sleeve. At this point, all you have to do is make sure you get your Protein and Water goals in. When you get to solids, you'll definitely feel it.

I was really hungry the first week. I'm 11 days out now and it's better. We fat people don't like feeling hungry but hang in there. I do find that the desolvable Vitamins seem to smooth the hunger, probably because they give my mouth something to do for a few minutes. Taste good too. Also warm liquids like broth and tea. I add unflavored Protein to the broth.

I actually don't have an appetite I'm just worried that because I'm drinking/eating these things and not feeling full that my surgery didn't work. I thought after a whole pudding I would feel some restriction / full feeling but I didn't. I'm confused. Thank you both for your help and taking the time to respond.

Dense Proteins are when you'll really start feeling it.

Unless your doctor just pretended to cut your stomach, it didn't fail.

At a few days or even weeks out? Your stomach is still very traumatized. You can't rely on feeling ANYTHING correctly at this point. You just had major surgery and likely still have some of the drugs in your system and feelings of fullness or hunger are going to be blunted if not missing for a very long while.

Be sure to not test what you can eat since you really can't judge how much you can hold right now. Measure and go slow. With liquids, it's not as dangerous, but you really still need to be measuring everything once you start purees and soft foods.

Trust me, when you start eating actual foods and not stuff that just slides right through the stomach into the intestine, the sensations are going to change a lot. That's when you'll really know that you're missing the majority of your old stomach :)

I think most everyone has this same fear right after surgery while still on liquids. I did! The issue is you do not feel the restriction with liquids....and you may not even feel it when you move to pureed foods.....but believe me, you will feel it when you start more solid foods. Just stick to your plan and trust all is well. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
