No added sugar cordial ?

Recommended Posts

How far postop are you? Why do you want to drink?

My answer

First, no added sugar is not sugar free. There might be a lot of natural sugar in whatever you are drinking, from the fruit and the alcohol. Low carb (during the weight loss phase at min) is the best way to keep the weight loss steady and to avoid triggers that lead to bad food descisions and regain.

Second, its empty calories. You coukd easily spend 1/4 of your daily calories on just one drink.

Third, most WLS patients have a much different tolerance for alcohol than they had preop. What once might have given you a mellow buzz might get you completely smashed.

Fourth, its fairly easy (and not uncommon) for a WLS patient to exchange one addiction, food, for another, alcohol, and completely screw up their life again.

Oh poop

I agree with being careful about not falling prey to no sugar added.

It's a tricky thing to say the least. Once you're far enough out, if you want a cocktail then have one. Make sure it has low glycemic impact is all.

It's fine to warn cautionary on addiction switches but not everyone is going down that road.... there are plenty, likely most, who will not fall victim to this. There are plenty of us here who can enjoy an occasional alcoholic beverage without needing to concurrently enroll in detox and AA programs.

A cordial is not going to be a low glycemic index drink. Also, I didnt say that she was going to become an alcoholic. Transfer addictions can be alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, exercising, gambling, shopping etc.

If she is newly post op and judging by the question its likely, and already asking about alcohol she can be opening herself up to a slippery slope. If nothing else, like for me, drinking can lead to noshing and then full out Taco Bell binges.

Cordials are generally fruit liqueurs. post-300447-14783683988482_thumb.jpg

In that case, my dr. suggested putting fresh fruit/cucumbers in the Water to lightly flavor it. If using juice, try 1 oz to 8oz. You dont want to add to much because its cals and carbs with no real nutrition.

I like to add 2-3 oz of the peach mango v8 in a 20oz cup and top off with iced tea (16-17oz).

A cordial is an alchoholic drink made from fruit. fruit juice is basically liquid sugar. Most of us use Crystal Light or other sugar-free additives to enhance our Water.

This confused me too because in Australia a no sugar added cordial is what you guys would probably call crystal lite. It is a no calorie flavour you add to Water. So I too was reading it wondering what all the talk about alcohol was for.

To the OP I added a little sugar free lemon or lime juice to my Water to keep my palate fresh and the nausea at bay. I still do add it sometimes ... depending on my mood. I haven't had any problems with losing weight even while still on insulin.

I will say that my doctor took me off insulin last week .. and all of a sudden I dropped 3 kg in 5 days - which only goes to show insulin makes you retain Fluid and possibly fat as well.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
