Post op 10/26/16 sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi. There were a lot of people with a 10/26/16 surgery date on the boards prior to my surgery. I just wanted to see if anyone wants to chat or even start a little group as we go through this.

I had my surgery at 7:30 am on 10/26/16. The first day was awful and on the second day I failed my swallow test and had a few minor complications and a major meltdown. I wasn't able to have anything to drink until 3:00 pm on 10/28/16 and didn't get to go home until 10/30/16.

I'm now a little behind on my post op routine, started full liquids Monday.

Pain wise, I am ok for a while and then the pain gets so bad I need to lay down. I have been walking a 1/2 a mile every morning (still can't get the gas out) and been taking trips to the store to keep busy. Maybe over doing it a bit....

Other than that, I am very bored and I am even starring to miss work.

Hope everyone's surgeries went well!!!

Hi, I had my surgery on the 25th and like you, stayed in for an extra few days, went home on the 29th. So far I'm hating it. I hate the pain from drinking, the pain from my right upper port, and the sheer boredom of now being on Soup, milk and cream of wheat for 18 days straight. I know it's temporary (I'm an RN), but I don't care, I feel ill. I haven't had a bowel movement since Oct. 24th, and that can make us feel bad too. Anyway, good luck and I'll keep you in my prayers

What are you doing to manage pain? The pain meds I got don't really work so I tried going off of them and then I realized they work just not enough. Regardless whenever I'm in a laying or sitting position I have extreme pain and haven't slept in a few nights. Are you still taking pain meds? As a nurse do you think I should call my dr to get something stronger or just wait it out?

My surgery was the 26th but bypass not sleeve. Hope you all are managing well as possible. I am having pain issues which still could be postop gas pain but it hurts to drink anything. Good luck to all of you.....

Hi. I was sleeved on Oct. 24th - had a few complications... and was finally sent home on the 30th. I was d/c on clear & full liquids. I thought soupy oatmeal would be ok to have the 1st night home since it was on my list.... but did my body yell at me!! So I had to go back to Clear Liquids for a little while longer. I have learned that even though it says one thing on a piece of paper, my body will let me know otherwise. Had lots of pain & learning how to take it easy for once & to listen to my body. I think it's a great idea to keep in contact since we are all around the same SX date. Best of luck to all of us on our journeys!!

Hi Rudy, my dr's office said there absolutely should not be any severe pain at this point and if there is its imperative to go and get it checked out. You could have a stricture, abcess forming, or simply excess gas, but better safe than sorry. I'm going to get myself checked out too as I'm feeling very unwell. Let me know how you get on.

I had mine on the 26th at 8am! First 2 days in the hospital were rough. I was discharged home on Friday morning which was the 28th. I've been off the narcotic pain medication since Monday. Each day is a struggle with getting Fluid and Protein in. I just want to chug a bottle of Water to quench my thirst.

Hi Rhonda, I left the surgeons an hour ago. They said it's just because I have been active and could be some bruising underneath. They gave me some meds to help me sleep and said everything looks good and I should be better in a feel better in a few days :).

Made a week today !! And so far so good , first 3 days were pretty rough but bearable. Just hard to get used to pure liquids for 3 weeks . As of today I'm in no pain just mostly soreness at my big incision and still kinda hurts to sneeze or cough . I am taking a month off since I have a real physical job that requires a lot ot lifting and moving around last thing I need is a hernia . Hope everyone is doing good and good luck to future sleevers

10/13 sleever and I food that Tylenol extra strength work really better than the one the doctor prescribed. My 1st week was really painful, my belly felt like I did 1000 crunches and 10 ton weights were sitting on top. But my pain has subsided by I am still very weak and tired all the time.

Hi - I was sleeved on the 25th. No real issues since except had to spend two days in the hospital due to incredible nausea. Once I stopped taking the pain meds, I was fine. I am on the full liquids now and am only really drinking double milk. I can also have greek yogurt, strained Soups and pudding but none of those appeals to me at all. I have a call into my nut to see if I am ok since I am not getting quite enough Protein. Looking forward to moving on to pureed/soft foods. Would love to stay in touch with others too.

Hello!! Sleeved - Oct 27th @ 12pm. Surgery day was really hard and painful - but forced myself to get up and walk around the room even in the middle of the night. Next day in the hospital i was up and walking laps around the entire floor. By the third day all of the CO2 had been released, and I haven't had any pain except for at the largest incision port (not even enough for me to take the pain meds). I am so grateful physically. Mentally- :( ; ( I hate Protein shakes!!! I hate liquids period at this point! With 14 days of only liquids, I just want to chew. I must admit, yesterday I did do the chew and spit out. That wuth reading alot of boards and people saying they went through the same and are feeling much better now helped relieve the insanity and depression I was starting to feel. Having such a harder time than I ever thought possible for me with getting Water in. I love Water, but like another poster, just want to gulp it down- but have already experienced the discomfort that that causes.

Hi, I was sleeved on 10/26 & release the following day. Had no problem getting liquids down, gas was bad the first two days and after I was ok. Pain wise I don't have any just a discomfort on the two bigger incision. I'm move a lot more. I even went back to work monday 10/30 I have an office job (no lifting at all) the only thing is that I get so tired and by the end of the day I have no energy what so ever. As soon as I get home from work I take a nap. I've been doing ok on my liquids but still not getting my whole 64oz (it's so hard); and today I started the full liquid diet and I had a very hard time. I don't think my stomach liked the premier Protein shakes. I hope I have a better day tomorrow. If you guys have any advise of full liquid please let me know I could use some tips. It's getting boring.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
