I'm a month past my surgery, and I was second guessing myself right up until the day before surgery. I even wondered what in the hell I'd done in the days after the surgery.

Now I'm 100% positive that I made the right choice. I'm making progress, and I've got good things to look forward to. Now I'm just wishing I'd done this years ago.

I myself decided that I need to be around for my grandkids who are 4 years old and 3 month old. I also have degeneritive discs and bulging discs and have been on disability since 2012. I also had a heart attack back in 2015. I was told recently I could end up in a wheelchair if I don't get the weight off soon. I would also like to ride horses again. I have also a great support group behind me. As of right now I am scheduled for sometime in April or may

I had RNY bypass two years ago. Honestly I have never second guessed myself, not before and not after. This was because I was very sick from being obese and I knew that I would not live a long full life.

I am 5'10" and weighed 315 at my very heaviest. I carried my weight well but my body was breaking down. I had high BP, High cholesterol, sleep apnea, Severe gerd, diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease.

I was told that I would soon be looking at kidney dialysis and then down the road a transplant. I also have psoriatic arthritis and severe osteo arthritis of the spine.

Much of these diseases came on in my late 30's, early 40's and they were caused by being obese which is a metabolic disease. I lost over 100 pounds on my own many times and would gain it all right back.

Since having surgery my diabetes, gerd, high bp, high cholesterol, sleep apnea is all gone. My stage 3 kidney disease has not progressed and is considered in remission.

The bad news is, I should have done it sooner because I damaged my joints and am still dealing with back, neck and shoulder pain. Had i done this even 5 years sooner, it might have made a difference.

The good news is, I feel fantastic! More awake, more alert and definitely happier!

If I were you, I would think about what reasons you were considering bypass in the first place and stay focused on that. It might help you make a decision.

Also, i would not move forward unless i was 100% sure because this is a huge life change and you have to be ready for it to be successful long term.

I am doing it because I am starting to have some of the same health problems that my mother began to have when she was my age and over weight. Joint problems and back problems that she did nothing about and now she can't stand up straight and can barely walk. I don't want to be like her. I want to be able to continue to do stuff with my son and be able to do stuff with my grandchildren when he has kids one day. My mom is retired and basically sits around on the couch all day because that is all she can do. I don't want to be like that in 20 years. I want to be able to enjoy retirement one day. This is my primary motivation for having surgery.

It was my best option to treat my disease. I don't take having my health and life back for granted. The surgery has saved/extended my life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
