So ive read on here that most insurance requires 6 months of nutrition appointments.... my first nutrition appointment isnt until December 15th! Does that mean I won't even be considered for surgery until june of 2017??? Im so worried about that because the company I currently work for is not doing so well and may even close its doors before then. I have bc/bs insurance. My surgeon is out if Gainesville Fl. If anyone is from the area, I'd love to talk.

I also have bcbs federal and my time is 3 months. My primary doctor was great with helping me. I am on month 2 and hopefully I can have surgery before end of year. I started last month.

@@anywon I have BCBS Federal, and I only had 3 months on mine. My surgery is on 11/8.

I would call your member services # that's on your ins card tomorrow and ask them about your bariatric benefits.

Also for my policy if I used a Blue Distinction Center I only had to pay a copy of $150 for my surgery, and $35 doctor co-pay.

I wish you the very best of luck in this.

I have BCBS and I had to do the required 6 month nutrition appointments. I started Dec 2015 and didn't have my surgery until August 2016. Don't be discouraged it taught me a lot before having surgery!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
