Waiting for Consult. Would like some insight on Post LapBand patients

Recommended Posts

I am currently scheduled for Consultation for the LapBand. This seems to be the most difficult decision I have had to consider. I would be most curious to get some further insight on Post Op Patients about how they are dealing with the physical and emotional change of life.

Very concerned...:help:

Dietfailure..

Welcome to the beginning of your journey for a healthy life.

Read all that you can on this board - Read the good & bad - each person has different experiences - Mine have been good so far - knock on wood.. I was banded 7/17 and am down 28.5 lbs - Got my first fill yesterday - I am on full liquids (clear/cream Soups etc) for a week - pureed/soft for 2 weeks and by week 4 s/b back on regular food.

All doctors are diff on their instruction to their patients.. The band is a TOOL ONLY not the magic pill that we all want - I say that it does 25% of the job (restricts your portions) but you still have to do the other 75% of the work by choosing healthy low fat - low sugar foods and exercise. I have worked at losing these 28.5 lbs - I walk 2-3 miles a day (4-5 times a week) i eat fish (i like it) most nights have had chicken, turkey meat loaf - steak & hamburger patties - with some veggies and 1/2 cup of brown rice or whole wheat Pasta. I would do it again in a minutes... I think you will find more positive results than negetive ones even from those who aren't losing as fast as they would like .. With all our yo-yo dieting we have screwed up our metabolisms. I still have head hunger (your tummy is full but you want to eat anyway) and this is just something you have to deal with - get up do something to occupy your mind.. Again - only you can make the right choice for you.. Gather all the info you can so that you can make an informed decision.

Good Luck...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
