Feeling like I'm so gross right now :(

Recommended Posts

I'm 7 days pos op and Every morning my breath is so bad it makes me nauseous. I brush my teeth like 6 times a day. I feel like in general I smell so bad for some reason. I try to shower everyday because if it. Might be tmi but going to the bathroom I'm so disgusted with myself. Also been avoiding people because my self confidence is so low right now. Has anyone experience this too? How are you coping with it?

If you're concerned about your breath, for me the issue was from not being able to chew. Your mouth cleans itself a little bit with the mechanical process of chewing, so when you're stuck on a liquid diet you get a gross film on your toungue and I felt like my breath was gross.

Past that, you just had major surgery, so it's normal to feel disgusting. It gets better. :)

You've just had major surgery and your body is still adjusting..........give yourself the same compassion and understanding you would give a friend going through the same circumstances. It's a really big hit to our system and we think the results should be instantaneous (at least I did). As you start healing and feeling better I think your attitude will change. Once you begin dropping some weight you'll be very pleased ;--) Hang in there ♥

It's called Ketosis. I had it really bad for the first month. It's from rapid weight loss.

Also, I experienced, and others did as well, a change in smells. Everything smelled bad for me the first 3 weeks. My bedroom smelled rancid. I smelled rancid. Someone said they couldn't be around their family because they all smelled like onions. I had friends over and asked "if they could smell that" and the said they didn't know what I was talking about. The only thing I could handle was a clean linen candle. I burned one in every room. It helped. Good luck!

At 3 months out I wake up with gross breath fairly often still. I think it is ketosis as well. I just carry mouthwash around and I also brush more often. It's yucky but I'm dropping weight so I'll deal.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
