Just had sleeve 5 days ago. I was told I need to drink

64 oz of liquid with 1/2 being Water and eating 60-70 grams of protien. Can anybody do that or is it just me?

I am 3 weeks out and can't manage 64 oz of liquid yet. I also couldn't get close to the 60 grams of Protein until I started my pureed/mushy food. At 5 days post op my goal was 30 grams. What I have figured out though is that there is a LOT of variety in the different dietary instructions. Seems to totally depend on your surgeon.

Just keep trying on both of these. It absolutely gets easier.

I was told priority was Water first to prevent. It takes a few days to increase the volume. Just keep working towards it by sipping all day long. As for Protein, Liquid Protein is what you want. I was able to begin them on day 3 but took a few days to work up to goals. Put forth a good effort and do what you can. It does get easier as the swelling goes down.

You need to get your Protein first. Your body will literally eat your own lean Protein. You will also need 48oz of Water and that includes the Water in Protein shakes

Fluids are more important than protein right now - and at least 64 ozs of fluids. I wouldn't concentrate on 1/2 of that being just from water - I think Decaf tea, crystal light, Powerade zero, etc. would be good as well.

yep i wouldn't worry about where you are getting your Water from - as long as you get fluids in. for the first four days I was only getting in about 40oz - and it literally took from 6:30am when I get up until midnight when I would go to bed. It was around day 5 that I could drink easier - think I got around 50oz the next couple days and then no problem getting 64oz - it was still taking that same time frame. But now I can easily get in 64oz (still have a day here and there when I fall short) without it being constant little sips the entire time I"m awake.

It was also around day 5 that I started meeting my Protein goal of 60-80 grams. But most of what I drank had Protein in it. So I really would keep drinking Protein drinks until I met my protein goal and then switch to crystal light. And a sugar free popsicle most days - they count as Fluid too!

When i went to pre-surgical testing I was told to get protein in first. That is also the reason you cant eat and ddrink at the same time. the water/liquids will was the food through minimizes the nutrients that will be absorbed.

@@SAL421 It's more important to be hydrated than get Protein right now. Protein first when eating - but 5 days post op that's not really an issue at this time. Dehydration is dangerous - you can live without food - you can't live without Water.

I had surgery yesterday. the first 24 hrs are liquids than you go to pureed foods if your stomach can handle it. The patient’s dietician will decide how long this phase will last and suggest dietary guidelines. stage1 post op is min. 1 day max to 7. i had pureed tuna today.I''m on stage 2

A stage two meal plan might look like this:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
