Going from Band to Bypass

Recommended Posts

The process is the same as when I went for my lapband, all the lab work chest xray,EKG,nutrition consult, therpy consult, excerise specialist, sleep lab. I the same testing like I did for the lap band. I am all done now waiting for the ok, my care team are sure that things will go smoothly. I will let you know when I get a date for the surgery. How is thing coming along with you. And yes the travel is going to be worth it, for a life time of healthiness , evan 3.5 mile for a couple of months is still worth it!

I know my distance of 1.5 hours is not bad. It would totally be worth it if I knew the doctors were working to get my band converted to RNY. But I don't know that yet. I'm meant driving the 1.5 hours one way every time I had an appointment to get a fill or a check

Up. If I was going for a surgeon or one of those types of visits, it would be totally worth it.

Plus if your insurance doesn't cover fills, fluoroscope...what are you most likely to do? Not go and see your doctor to keep you accountable--because of the distance, time away from work and money out of your own pocket.

I'm really hoping I can convert to RNY. I think it will make life easier and not cost so much in the long run.

Bugaboo77 in the meantime you should go to your nutritionist for support and accountability the insurance pays for that that is what I did every mouth. It really helped. Today I got my surgery date it is November the 14th I am so Happy it is so surreal I feel really good right about now!! Just hang in there I know how you feel I was in your shoes the waiting game really is painful but you have to put in the work show them you mean business! I started exercise everyday walking and stationary biking everyday I did everything they asked of me. I really went thru some hoops, but I really wanted this surgery and now I finally got a date. Just hang in there hey I even got a Denial as well. But I had to steadfast and keep on pushing I really do have a good care team that worked hard for me because they knew that I meant business. You Can do this too!!!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
