They say to quit smoking, but what about legal marijuana?

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is on Monday. I am a legal smoker of marijuana. What are the rules on this? I've told all my doctors I smoke pot and not one of them said anything about it. So I'm not sure what is OK or not and I just realized today I never asked. Anyone have any info or experience?

I'm not worried about munchies and eating as I did 16 months on a liquid diet, smoked legally and never cheated so that's not the issue. I'm worried about it harming me somehow or harming my stomach. I'll check with the doctors office today but I wanted to ask you guys as well.

Of course my first post is about pot. lol! Eh, oh well.

you'd have to ask them about any impact on your healing stomach, I just don't know.

does it make you feel more hungry? if so then that is something to take into consideration when you are trying to loose weight.

Ask the Dr and have them check with the anesthesiologist. You might have to stop for a couple weeks before and after. Just because of your lungs, but ask them.

No one here is qualified to answer and all people are going to do is tell you that smoking will give you the munchies.

This place is like Reefer Madness. The responses will go from bad to ridiculous.

Thanks everyone!! I'm not worried about munchies as I've done 16 months fasting and it was fine. Reefer Madness is an awesome movie. loL!

For people that are stress eaters, marijuana has the opposite effect, they eat less, but no one here will ever believe that. Congrats on the 16 month liquid fast! You have more will power than me.

**Clears throat** Not suggesting that you do it... this is my experience only. I smoke weed. I have since day 4 or 5 post op. I don't get the munchies maybe it's the strain but anyways if I do have the desire to eat I'll eat a couple pieces of chicken or some turkey wrapped in cheese and I'm good after 2-3 bites. Seriously. I can't drink-- so I smoke. Zero calories-- feels great. Get the muchies? Eat some cheese. Make sure you talk to your Dr. about this. I am not qualified to give you an answer only sharing my experience.

Yes, I very rarely have "munchies". Thank you on the congrats! I lost 130 lbs and then gain 40 back. Now I'm doing the Sleeve. I am excited because fasting for 16 months was really, really hard. I'm happy that I will get to eat real food again within a month or so! lol!

Ok, thank you! I have a call into my doc but I was planning on a two week hiatus. Kind of like, don't smoke weed while my body is still only on the liquid stage. But hopefully I'll hear back soon.

Tinctures are available but I tend to be very sensitive to ingested marijuana so I am thinking I would stay away from it 100% till I'm well healed.

I'm in a legal weed state as well. Why are you using Marijuana?

Stress, anxiety, anti-nausea and pain relief. My gallbladder went bad and it caused a pancreatic attack so I've been using it pretty regularly right now to stop the nausea (as well as ondansetron or whatever) as well as it reduces my abdominal pain. I've been using it that way since I ended up in ICU in February.

I used it for stress and anxiety now for about 5 years. I was on anti-anxiety pills but I hated them and their effect on me - I felt like a druggie who would just sleep away my anxiety and I wasn't really living. So I worked with my doc and my Medical Marijuana distributor on a strain that helps stop my anxiety attacks as well as has reduced my issues of dealing with stress and repetitive thinking.

Keeping a bad gallbladder can be dangerous, it can rupture. And pancreatitis is terrible. They should remove your gallbladder when you have the sleeve, right now you are just masking that pain. Ask your surgeon about it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
