Peeps do it all the time, plus this site supports it. I personally went to Med school in Tijuana, and bed side manners and care are better than most places in the US. You will be great.

<-- sleeved 7/22/16 Mexico. Would do it again 100000000 times. Awesome experience. Zero complications.

Don't be nervous I'm going Nov 22. I live in SoCal and a lot of people here go to Mexico for all sorts of surgery. Who's your doc?

All you need to bring to the hospital is your toothbrush/paste, one loose fitting outfit, gas x strips, and I brought a neck pillow & small pillow for my lap for the drive home that I thought were life savers. You get a private room for the night you're there and it has Netflix :). The only other things I'd bring to the hotel are a few comfortable changes of loose clothes and a good book or two - because you'll definitely get bored. There's TV and movies, but I was grateful to have some reading material. Don't bring anything to eat. The hotel supplies your "meals" with your stay. Oh, and your cell phone & charger. The hotel has free wifi.

Be prepared to be very well taken care of. Everyone speaks English, cares deeply and makes you feel extremely comfortable. It's a great experience because you'll get dropped off with 4-5 others getting sleeved as well. When I was there, we all supported each other, "ate" together after the surgery and went for walks to the local shopping area. It's so nice to not feel like you're in it alone :) good luck! I'm sure you can't wait for it to be done!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
