Said NO to anti inflammatory and even NO to steriod shot

Recommended Posts

Horrible hip pain, bursitis, told orthorpaedic about my gastric sleeve and can't take anti inflammatory He said I just want to give you a shot, I said no, I better not. So he's going to try and order me some compound cream. An hour later I had to meet with my NUT anyway and asked her. She said, its okay, just be warned I may bloat and that steriods can be a trigger for hunger. She said if I need the shot to get it.

Common sense told me that the one shot, wouldn't wreck me or gain my 40 pounds back I lost since July, so I'm glad I spoke to her.

So anyone have any experience with why we are told this? I was afraid it was going to eat away at my healing tummy.

I'm on travel now, but in a months time, I'm going in for the shot.

My Dr told me I could get a cortisone shot a month after surgery. I was afraid to screw up the timing of my surgery getting it before and the surgeon said it was good that I didn't. It's not an issue post-op though.

How far out are you after surgery? My surgeon warned about taking steroids after surgery as they can inhibit healing and dissolve the suture line in the stomach.

Until the stomach is healed, oral steroids or NSAIDs can irritate the healing tissue. At any time, NSAIDs or steroids regardless of how they're taken (pills or shots) can increase the risk of ulcers because of how they affect something called prostaglandins. All of my specialists including my WLS surgeon agreed that because of my auto-immune arthritis I will need to occasionally take NSAIDs and steroids, and we try to protect my stomach with a PPI (omeprazole). The risk isn't completely eliminated, so I will have to keep an eye out for symptoms of ulcers.

I'm 7 weeks out, since I'm out of town I won't get the shot until about 12 weeks if it's still hurting. I'm going to use icy hot patch tonight.

Is the gastric sleeve surgery a cure for arthritis I was told it is but I don't see how but I'm sure it'll help relieve some pain. I have severe arthritis.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
