My surgery is November 9th and I'm so nervous due to liver problems

Recommended Posts

I have been through most of the pre op tests and all is well but I just found out I have a fatty liver. I don't have any other ailments like diabetes, cholesterol problems, heart.. Etc but the sonogram showed fatty liver. I had been a heavy drinker for many years but quit s few months ago as I wanted to change my life. Unfortunately even after stopping drinking and dieting I still did not lose any weight at all. I met with a surgeon in late July and he suggested gastric bypass. I have not had the endoscopy or the final blood tests yet. I am scared they will cancel my surgery due to finding liver problems. I had a blood test in June that showed normal liver function but this new sonograms showed fatty liver. Can anyone offer anything positive to say?

I would say a fatty liver would not you from having the surgery. You would have to be on a pre op liquid diet for about month is all or more. The liver will shrink then. That the whole purpose of the liquid diet pre surgery so the liver is shrunk and they can get to your stomach better. So no worries.

I also had a fatty liver. As mentioned, most obese people do. When my surgeon saw that in my report and I believe his comment was something along the lines of "Everything looks great. I see you a fatty liver, no surprise there. Surgery should take care of that for you!" That was it.

Most of us all have fatty livers. My surgery is scheduled the day before yours. Best of luck to you.

I believe, if you watch the fatty foods, and stop alcohol, your fatty liver problem will disappear. My friend also had it, he canged his ways a d all is good, normal liver now.????

Has anyone had major fatty liver and was able to get the surgery and everything went well ?

You will need to follow a strict liver shrinking diet pre-op. It'll be very important to stick with it and not cheat - because they will cancel surgery (even during) if the liver is still too big.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
