1 year & 5 months post-op

Recommended Posts

It has been a while since I've been on here! I had gastric bypass on April 7, 2016.

Honestly, I'll be so happy to get under 200 pounds. I have not been my current weight since middle school, so it feels great! But I know I have more work to do.

Since I relocated back to my hometown of Brooklyn, NY I have been slacking!! For the past 6 months I have stayed between 230-240. I'm currently staying with my family and the added stress and their unhealthy lifestyle has held me in a rut. But I'm ready to reach my goal!

Throughout the whole process exercise has never played a major role in my weight loss. So, now I joined a local gym and I went for the first time this morning. Please send me some words of encouragement! I need them.

Your post has the wrong year. You are now out of the honeymoon period and will have to work very hard to lose more weight. Going to a gym will help you feel better, but only cutting calories will take the pounds off.

Get a kitchen scale and weigh every bite of food and track it in my Fitness Pal.

You can lose the weight, but be assured you will need to cut way back on calories to do it.

You look absolutely fantastic. I have never been able to lose weight with exercise alone. I must cut calories, and I have to track every bite.

Oh, I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I wasn't going to cut calories also lol. I plan on reducing my calorie intake to 1,100-1,250 a day.

You CAN and WILL get there!! You know what to do for sure, you have proved that you can make it Look how far you have come!! Exercise is so important aspect of getting the weight off and keeping it off. Sometimes I feel like it is the only thing keeping me from gaining any weight. Strive to get there. I started walking right after my RNY. Not a lot but I did walk. I pretty much have exercised since my surgery. I now walk 4 to 5 days a week and I go 4 miles each time. I don't know if your surgeon stressed to you how important exercise is but after the honeymoon phase it can help so very much. Good luck and KEEP KEEPING ON!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
