Having sleeve gastrectomy next month

Recommended Posts

Holi I've been reading my big fat sleeve book and it talks lots about this site so decided to come check it out. I've been reading multiple books, researching articles and talking to people. My surgeon thought it was best to do the sleeve with me due to my complex medical hx. I'm scheduled for surgery on October 24th and I'm a ball of nervous excitement! Any tips would be grand. Oh yeh I just turned 39 and in having dr takata at Scripps hospital do my surgery.

Relax! I spent a little over half a day in the hospital, had one pain pill once I got home, and was driving and shopping in four days. I never even felt I had surgery. I got through the jitters before surgery by painting a room, cleaning closets, pantry and drawers. I too read everything I could about the sleeve. It has been an amazing three years and I would sure do it again. My husband has lost 100 lbs. and his diabetes is finally under control. I have no more asthma gasping when I walk a block, I am off Metformin, we are both off one BP pill, and I am happy that I have slim ankles, not puffy and swollen like before. Best wishes to you!

@@Butterflywarrior Sounds like you are doing well with the preparation. As you've probably read - it's as much mental as physical. I'm pre-op so time will tell but I found therapy for emotional eating (more mindless/boredom eating) very helpful. I also started eating how I will need to post-op - high protein/low carb, mindful eating, eating slow, small bites, etc. This book was good to understand some of the emotional aspects of live after surgery.

Best of luck on your journey!!!

@@KristenLe thank you so much for your support and feedback. I've crossed that book a few times but haven't bought it yet.. I read another one about coping by a psychologist and really liked it. This book you shared with me has been recommended at other websites too. Ty ahain

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
