All - I am 17 days out. I know Dr's usually prefer Milk of Magnesia but it's late and I don't have any tonight. I do have some Dulcolax (very tiny pills). Am I too early out to take a pill? Thoughts? Suggestions? Really don't want to wait until tomorrow to deal with this. So uncomfortable.

Fleet enema is your next step. After that add benefiber to your Water or Protein Shake.

My doctor had prescribed me Vitamin D pills two weeks before surgery and I had too take them once a week for twelve weeks so I asked her if she had an alternative and she said that because it was a small pill that I could take it and I did and had no issues. (It was my bariatric surgeon that prescribed them)

Take the dulcolax pills. Get some relief. Being constipated sucks, hurts, and makes you feel terrible.

Wow. I guess I would go to urgent care if after using the enema nothing happens. Are you in midst of a blockage or just feeling backed up?

If you are not feeling like giving birth but severely bloated the ducolax and or fleet should get things moving within hours. For me as it was in midst of something coming that I could not get out the enema worked. Since then the Fiber has been preventative

liquid magnesium citrate should get things moving, to me dulcolax would be too rough but that's just my thought. I would call your surgeon and see what they suggest.

I did the milk of magnesium two nights (day 5/6 post op) and nothing. My surgeon suggested suppositories and that did the trick. I have been ok since.

The consitpation just relieved itself and just knocked me off my feet. I can't function right now. I can't believe it was that much in me. And for 30 minutes I was in labor trying to birth this Crap out of me. I'm 8 days post op and this is my first poop.

I didn't think it would even come out. God awful. I am still recovering.

Yeah Constipation is rough. Enemas are good. If you're really backed up urgent care or a colonic irrigation. Expensive and weird but it will clean you out.

If you are really desperate Epsom salt as a laxative. Instructions usually on package but they are rough!!

Feels like roto-rooter has been through. Add a little lemon or lime juice to help get it down. Drink as much Water as possible. Won't have to wait long.

Miralax on a daily basis is great prevention. A lot of other people like benefiber, Metamucil, etc. Probiotics are popular too. Find what works for you. Remember not to take pills until cleared by your doctor.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
