Is it normal that I can down a one-cup protein shake in 2 minutes?

Recommended Posts

I down a one-cup Protein shake (1/2 serving of powder in milk and/or Water in a one-cup container). I forget I'm sleeved and I down it in a couple of minutes. I do it without even thinking and I have no issues. I'm 11 days post-op.

Am I stretching my sleeve? I'm anxious because protecting the size of my sleeve is higher priority to me than the weight-loss. If I protect the sleeve, the weight loss is bound to happen.

Hello! I don't think that's a good idea, your stomach is very sensitive, and you don't want to damage anything even if you feel fine. Plus the slower you go the more time you have to feel full.

You aren't stretching your sleeve. Try to slow down - but liquids go through your sleeve pretty fast and it's unlikely to cause any problems. I would talk to your surgeon to be safe.

Honestly, I don't know how you can do it! At 1 month out, I still feel uncomfortable if a drink more than a couple of sips at a time. I'm still struggling to get my fluids in every day. On the upside, at least you don't have to worry about meeting your Fluid goals! :)

I mean I can do that now at 14 months, but I would have never been able to that early.

Some people heal well and don't have much swelling, so I wouldn't worry but I would suggest trying to slow down if possible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
