You lied again lol

So today I told a girl ik about gastric bypass meeting. She has never been to one and I go to both nights and days. So she tells me this.. I went last month with a friend. I told her I didn't see you!.... Oh I was texting another person too... YAH RIGHT!!!!!! Like I feel like if you can't come to a support group meeting then you shouldn't get surgery anyways! There has been excuses for 11 months now.... I just can't stand her lies and negative this, negative that... I will actually be shocked if she ends up getting the surgery bc it should have been done in May.... Not that I am being rude or mean but I'm sick of hearing the circles she speaks....

I never went to support meetings. I was sleeved and I am successful. What am I missing? Why are you worried about what she's doing? My surgery was about ME.

Why do you care about what she is doing? Really?

I loved WWs, I hated the meetings. There was always one person who made the entire meeting about them to the detriment of the rest of the group. Sometimes she was the know it all, who wasn't actuall

Blah, I went to one... through the clinic. It was crummy. Woman basically selling the b12 nasal spray and a boastfest for the clinic itself. Short period of time w. people that had actually had the surgery. It was also a lot of people! I'd rather have a smaller more intimate group but just me.

Yes but at least y'all went to ONE to find out if it fits you or not... But it is sad that a lot of support groups are not worth going to... I love mine so many nice people and funny. Idk I guess it is what it is all I see us as is fb friends and that's it these days...

That is one of the saddest things I have ever read. I do hope you're not saying that the only people with whom one associates whether in person, online or other means are from the world of bariatric surgery. Not going to a support group in no way means that someone is never in a room with other folks.

If this is one of the saddest things you have read then you need to get out more!!! You need to re read from the Top...

Girl, you right. :D IF she'd been reading from the top, she would have found it much sadder than someone is THAT worried/mad/irritated by another's attendance (or lack thereof) at a SUPPORT meeting. ;)

My surgeon has monthly pre-op and post-op meetings. I attended my first pre-op meeting last week. I found it uncomfortable and there was a lot of information being spewed that I hadn't yet heard, so it also kind of scared me. I did find it informative so I may go again next month, but I can't say I "enjoyed" it. My surgeon didn't require it, but strongly recommended it.

My surgeon did not require any pre-op or post-op meetings, and I'm not even sure if he has them. I have several members of my family who have gone through WLS, and they are my support group.

But I feel like this is about something other than the meetings. Maybe you want her to go through the surgery so that you can have a friend on the journey with you, and she is just not ready. That's okay. She will choose it if and when she is ready. I think to some degree, we all need someone who can relate to us and what we are going through (that's why we are all on this site, right?). You obviously get that from the meetings you attend. Maybe you can find someone in your meetings to share your journey with?
