Scared

Hi everyone,

I have surgery on Thursday (September 8th) and for probably the past week I've been feeling scared, not of the life change and diet afterwards but of dying on the table, during surgery. I'm 29 and fairly healthy considering, but all I see is my husband and family and friends crying because I passed during surgery. Is this normal or am I being silly? My husband is incredibly supportive and just keeps reminding me why I'm doing this in the first place, and I know its the right things for me, just can't get past this fear.

@@singerbabe It's common to be scared when having any surgery. Complications during surgery are very rare so don't worry - your surgeon and Anesthesiologist will do everything to ensure a successful surgery. Just follow your pre-op and post-op instructions and you'll be fine! Talk to your Anesthesiologist about your fears - I'm sure they will reassure you as well. Good luck!

I think most everyone gets scared... I got freaked out because I didn't get scared! LOL And I'm a lot older than you. I am 51, and it went like a breeze. It will for you too!

Just don't push it post surgery, meaning both activity and food. Just because your doctor tells you you can move on to a new food group, it doesn't necessarily mean your new tummy will handle it. Don't get discouraged about that, just take a step back and wait a little while longer... that's been my biggest hurdle to overcome!

I think almost everyone has that thought, but it almost never happens. It's one of the safest surgeries out there. The mortality rate is something like 0.3% (even less for the sleeve), which is safer than even knee or hip replacement surgery. You have a 99.7% chance of NOT dying. Pretty good odds, I say.

I have 4 young kids and am afraid of dying on the table or from complications as well. But keep reminding myself about the fact that this is safer than a gallbladder surgery as well and I probably wouldn't think twice to go through with that!
