Trouble with Pre-op - Your thoughts, Please

Recommended Posts

I started my pre-op diet on August 31st. I have cut all carbs out of my diet and am having a Protein shake for Breakfast or 2 scrambled eggs. I am then having a small cup of Greek yogurt for a mid morning snack. lunch consists of green Beans. Then another Protein Shake for an afternoon snack. dinner is a Protein and a salad. I am eating sugar free popsicles like they are going out of style...but these are on menu for after my surgery so I thought they would be okay for before the surgery.

My surgeon wants me on all shakes and then a small dinner at night - no carbs. I am now concerned that the days I am eating eggs, yogurt and green Beans, plus the popsicles, might affect my surgery.

Has anyone had to have their surgery cancelled on the table, due to a large and fatty liver? If so, what did you eat the 2 weeks before the surgery?

My BMI was 35.2 to start...and my surgery date is September 14th. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please tell me all about your 2 week diets.

Thank you.

eggs and yoghurt are Proteins, so no worry there.

You are low BMI, so I am wondering if your liver is much enlarged.

Did your surgeon do tests on your liver and told you it is much enlarged?

I was 37.1 BMI at surgery, and during my pre op diet I was allowed some healthy carbs, such as vegetables, but no starchy ones like potatoes or pumpkin.

I also had few unhealthy Snacks, while I am Not recommending this, I was still OK for surgery, and it all went fine.

So, my pre op diet was: Protein shakes, Protein Snacks and for dinner chicken or fish or lean meat with a serve of non-starchy veggies.

Good luck!

Thank you both....I am just worried that something else will delay the surgery. Sounds like if I stay as carb free as I can, that will work.

Pre op anxiety is quite normal. It is a big step, and a major surgery.

I was very anxious 1-2 weeks pre op.

Yes, I had a major delay with my op, but I found out about it well and far in advance.

Instead of being sleeved last July 2015, I was diagnosed by the team Endo with Graves disease (Hyper-thyroid), and I had to wait 9 months for my thyroid to stabilise, and finally was operated on March 8, 2016.

Your surgery is coming soon, so if something was found not right with you, that would have happened long time ago.

I am sure you will be fine for the 14th.

Good luck.

September 13th here ... Pre op diet is 100 oz. of liquid a day (4 Protein drinks), 3 doses of Fiber, and a half cup of veggies (which I haven't been eating). Light yogurt is allowed (EWWWW), skim milk, broth, decay tea/coffee. I stick with milk in Protein shakes made from powder (up to three servings of "dairy" a day), pre made Protein Shakes, flavored Water, and broth.

I confessed and told my nurse that I had solid foods week 1 (out of 3 week all-liquid diet) and she obviously told me NOT TO CHEAT WHAT-SO-EVER going forward

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
