I've always had bad, painful periods. Now since I'm post op, they aren't as heavy but my whole ab section gets cramps now and I get real dizzy. I talked to my ob/gyn and she said it may be my new norm. She hasn't had any of her patients have RNY or Bariatric surgery so it's new for both of us. Anyone have this issue???

Could be an Iron deficiency, I would have your blood work checked out.

I had RNY 8/3 and my first cycle snuck up on me with little pain and heavy flow for about 4 days. Everyone is different - keep listening to your body and asking questions.

Did they only check ferritin? Did they check you TBIC and Iron saturation? I was told My levels were okay too. I was dizzy from periods too. When i went into my general prac. She ran ALL the iron tests and surprise, surprise-- i am anemic. So, just something to keep in mind.

I just had my first period since surgery. Miserable...just heavy, crappy and moody. Hoping it gets better next time...only time will tell.

I had to come off birth control pills pre-op. Not looking forward to the PMS and miserable periods to come.

I switched to an IUD...my dr thought it was a great alternative. It didn't effect anything to do with surgery and no chance of an oops pregnancy.

I had Endometrial Ablation done a couple years ago. I can't recommend it enough. I am SO happy I did it. Obviously, this is not something you want to do if you want more kids and unless your hubby has been snipped, you'll still have to use some form of BC. I haven't had a period in over two years, yet all my reproductive organs are intact as well as my hormones.

Did I mention NO PERIODS whatsoever??

Yes!!! Had mine well over 10 years ago. Have spotted maybe 4 times- and it lasted a whole "wipe". Lol

Best thing ever!!!!

No bloating! No PMS!! No period!!

My issue? Should be approaching menopause yet I have no clue!! Lol

Oh well!

Mine have always been very painful - cramps. No Advil has really been hard. My cycles are now also significantly shorter - closer to 3 weeks between periods rather than 4-5ish.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
