Did I make the right choice?

Recommended Posts

After reading a lot of stories I've learned that people typically wait about 4-6 months from the very start of this process to the day of surgery. I started my process July 17th 2016 (the day i walked into my surgeon's office) and I'm scheduled for surgery on August 29th. So my process has taken a little over a month. Which means that I haven't been on prilosec for long nor have I been on my zero starch diet for long. Also I've gained 5 lbs. They said I had to either maintain or loose. So let me get to the point here....

The night before my pre op appointment i caught the flu and my heart rate was high. My preop appointment was Yesterday. My surgeon's nurse said I should wait till im.not sick.anymore. she said I should work on loosing some wight and be on my diet longer and be on prilosec longer too. She said she's never experienced anyone moving this fast and thought I should reschedule.

I don't know what to do. what you do?

Yes, I would reschedule. Your body will be under enough stress trying to heal after surgery, you don't need to add recovering from an illness on top of that. I know it's a difficult decision to make, but I think in the long run it is what's best for you. Keep us posted, and feel better soon!

@@MTWilliams Based on you being sick less than a week before surgery (especially increasing your heart rate) - I would postpone surgery. It's disappointing but you're better off being as healthy as possible before surgery!

Thank you. That's encouraging.

Thank you. I know it's the right choice it just sucks because who wants to wait longer, right? Lol. Oh lord. post-297663-14720591170747_thumb.jpg I guess I'll be staying in bed all weekend rather than prepping for surgery.

Yeah, reschedule maybe another 2-4 weeks after your original date, just to be sure. She's never heard of someone's process being so fast? MY process was VERY fast. I was approved by my insurance in 8 days, and my surgery was scheduled a month and a half after my consultation.

I live in AL. I used BCBS Federal. They would have made me wait 4 months, but since I have a life-altering condition, they approved me. But I've heard of so many people being approved quickly. Strange.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
