My first day mushie/soft - i was petrified

Recommended Posts

I dreamed of this day for the past month. Finally. I've read every post, every failure, every success. I decided I'd try and egg and most said they could tolerate a poached egg. What? Hmmmm, I've ordered enough eggs benedicts from restaurants and such, but me, make one. Okay, I pulled up youtube, got it down pat. Had a fresh dozen free range XL chicken eggs. I know how to crack and egg, but for some reason the yolk broke into my little saucer. WTF.

Okay, back up plan, I added a very small capful of skim milk, scrambled it up and cooked it very slowly over a med heat, it came out perfect and moist. Although I sat down to watch the morning news, I was very attentive to what I was doing. I took very small bites and even tried to chew, but it sort of swishes around in the mouth and slides down slowly. I would do a few of them, take a break, start again. When I was done with about half, I took a ten minute break. I don't like how food gets cold so fast when it takes us so long to consume it. But I didn't want to pop it in the microwave for fear of drying it out. I finished all but two teeny tiny bites, but knew to stop, and was so pleased that I didn't dump, or feel pain. I felt accomplished. And I really enjoyed it. But only 7 grams of Protein, ugh.

A half hour later, I tried to drink a Premiere Protein shakes, but really couldn't do it. Just wasn't going down the same way. So a half hour after that I tried my Propel Water and that felt a tad heavy also. I assume this is normal. An hour later, I tackled my Propel again and it was fine.

lunch I pulled out the small albacore packet, I think its 2.6 ounces. I mixed in a Magic Bullet a small amount of lite mayo and a smidgen of guacamole to moisten a tad more. (I am not ALLOWED Soups or vegetables until 6-8 weeks out). It didn't really mix well in the Bullet, and probably could have just mashed it the same with a fork or knife. I immediately split it into two little cups and started working on one of my servings. It still seemed dryish but I didn't want to add anymore mayo. But as I chewed and chewed it became pretty moist in my mouth. I took more breaks in between a couple of bites, very small bites. But I couldn't really finish it and I'm so fearful of dumping or the pain or vomiting. I've never vomited and don't plan to. But I keep thinking I'm not getting enough Protein in with the "food portion." I do plan to make up the count with the Protein Shakes in between, so no worries there.

So far so good. I bought some chicken chili from whole foods, but I'll have to pick out the celery and onions before I puree it but I think that is what is for dinner. :)

I think you are doing a great job. I too was very nervous when I was allowed to advance my diet and I also went very slow. It was awhile before I was able to get my Protein from solid foods so I supplemented with the Protein Shakes to reach my target.

Hang in there it sounds like you are on a good track to success. Congrats!!

I think we are all scared to go to food! but it is important and you are doing well.

I really liked refried Beans (touch down taco dip)at that stage, and yes, scrambled eggs with cheese.

one tip is if you have a mug warmer that plugs in to keep your coffee hot you can put your wee portion in a small coffee cup, set it on there (or a small ramekin) and it will keep warm without drying out even if you take a half hour to eat your "meal"

It does get better with time. I have eggs for Breakfast almost every morning and don't even think about it. I am 3 years post-op.

I ninjaed the chicken chili and while that first taste was delicious, common sense told me it was too spicey for my delicate tummy and gave it to my husband. I had hummas mixed with GENEPRO instead which was fine too.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
