I'm almost two weeks post op. Blood pressure is normal, blood sugar is normal, getting 64 ounces + a day liquids, and plenty of Protein yet I get light headed and dizzy when I stand up. Hmph. I'll talk to my team but wanted to check here first, see if anyone can relate or had similar issues.

I have the same issue. For me, they think it's my heart rate. When I am sitting down, my pulse is often in the low 50s (sometimes even as low as the high 40s).

They have told me to keep an eye on it. Apparently this (and abnormally low blood pressure) can be a side effect for a very small percentage of people.

If it keeps happening they are considering putting me on medication to speed up my heart. Wouldn't that be ironic as a big part of this surgery for me was to get off my blood pressure medication!

My doc said even if that's necessary it is extremely likely it would only be temporary until my body settles into the new version of me. He reminded me that my body has shed 3/4 of a pound a day for the last 6 months (on average) and it's not unrealistic for a body to take some time to adjust to that.

As you said, you'll talk to your team, just thought I'd share my experience.

Let me know what your team says, I'm curious!

It happened to me and my wif all the time for the first 1 to 2 months. We're almost 5 months out now and it rarely happens.. I think it's the low calories and your body adjusting. Check with your Dr of course.

It could be orthostatic hypotension. This is tough to diagnose because your blood pressure only goes below normal right when you stand up -- or when you sit up from lying down. Otherwise, your blood pressure looks normal and most people aren't taking their blood pressure at the exact instant when they are in the process of standing up!

Try pumping your legs like you are riding a bicycle for 30 seconds before standing up. If it is orthostatic hypotension -- which is very common for the first several months after wls -- that should help a lot. Good luck!

Hi, I am four days out of surgery and that just started happening to me today. My blood pressure is a little low for me - 111/71, so I am pretty sure it has to do with that. I am sitting tight and drinking fluids, hoping it will be better tomorrow. I don't think I should take my blood pressure medication tonight.

Not good to just stop taking your medication. Call your doctor first and see what they say.

Orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure upon standing) is really common post-op. Make sure you are drinking enough fluids. Let your doc know, but it's pretty normal. If you actually black out, or of it lasts longer than a few minutes after you move, then it may be more serious.

Thank you! I also think it is orthostatic hypotension from everything I read today. I mostly just stayed put and drank my fluids all day. It goes away after about 30 seconds, but it makes me feel a little off too. I read that adding some salt to my diet could help - so I put a tiny amount on my tongue, which probably makes no difference whatsoever. It is still low, but hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Please don't let Google, or even this forum, be your doctor. You should speak to a real one, just to be safe.

It's happens to me occasionally I've been told it's because we are eating so little food. It playing around with your blood sugar. Your body is trying to adjust. Not to eat diet foods eat normal whole foods don't worry they contain fats sugar and salt.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
