Anyone using an abdominal binder post surgery

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone else is using an abdominal binder after surgery. I never saw anyone post anything about a binder.

I bought one just in case and when I do my walking I put it on and it seems to help plus I don't have to hold my belly or press in with a pillow. I'm just 4 days post op. I still have quite a painful area on the left/middle side of my tummy. It may be gas, or it may be the incision which is very tender. I don't know if I can say which. I'm really able to pull myself out of my recliner, sit up, etc. the first two days, no way.

I used one after surgery for the first week or two. I agree, it helps when walking (keeps the jiggly in one place, lol). I have heard some people wear it to bed even after the first few weeks to help shape the stomach, but I don't know how much that would help.

I got one and use it off and on. I wear it when I know I am doing a lot of walking and plan to use it when I return to work due to I do a lot of sitting and standing.

At my hospital they put the binder on you after surgery and that is how you wake up. I have used it a lot more than I thought I would. I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and still throw it on occasionally if my stomach is bothering me.

So happy to hear. I didn't want to be doing any damage to my tummy by using it. But it's either that or constantly pressing in the center as I walk.

You're definitely not doing any damage. My surgeon also put mine on me right after surgery and said I could wear it as long as I wanted/needed.

I wore mine home from the hospital and it was a great help with pain- especially when going to stand up. I also wore it for the first month or more, when I went back to work. That thing was a life saver :)

@@MemphisWLS, I got mine at Destination Maternity. It is listed as a "post-partum/C-section belt". You can also do a search on Amazon under "Abdominal Binders for WLS" and it will provide a good variety.

Never to old to reach for a new goal.

I bought mine from Amazon. I had the nurses put it on me right after surgery at the surgery center and wore it on and off (but a good amount) for the first 2 weeks. I highly recommend one.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
