Needing lots of advice and support

Recommended Posts

I am about 2.5 years post op and have lost almost 150 lbs. Well, i stuck and still want to loose a little more. Problem is that i am totaly unmotivated. I lost my job in December and feel into a pretty bad depression. I stoped working out and even though i am still eating very little, i eating all the wrong things. Oh and i have gone back to myemotional eating which consists of a lot of grazing

I am looking for support to get be back on track and any sugestions on how to get out of this unmotivated place. Someone out there is bound to have had similarfeelings. Thanks for reading my post and any thoughts would be appreciated.

Congratulations on the weight loss. You have done very well.

I am sorry for the job loss. Believe it or not, even though you are going through a rough patch right now, someday soon you will be able to look back on this time and see a blessing in disguise. Are you currently job hunting?

Sometimes for me, taking baby steps in a positive direction is all it takes.

Are you seeing a counselor or therapist? Are you attending a bariatric support group? Have you considered attending Overeaters anonymous or similar meetings? Do you belong to a gym or fitness center?

Get out your calendar for this week and make plans to attend an exercise or other class (check your local library or other community center for free classes -- fitness, art, career, or something else that is interesting to you), make an appointment with your NUT, and plan to attend a support group meeting.

In the meantime, go back to basics. Track your food, make sure you are getting in all of your Protein and fluids, avoid starches, added sugars, and fried foods, eat mindfully, and take your Vitamins and supplements as instructed.

Have you talked to your PCP about your depression?

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I am so sorry you are feeling depressed. I have since I can remember & am on mediation. Some days are better than others. I have been grazing more during my bad days also. Getting away from the house or finding something you like doing helps me. Walking really helps. Put on some music that you like or just simply try to get out in nature. Try to look at the beauty out there & know that you are loved by a higher power, call it God, Allah, Budah, or whatever you feel comfortable with. You are not alone. I know it's difficult having been where you are in regards to not having a job. I found that just sitting under a tree & breathing in that beautiful air helps. I would just imagine myself laying in God's hand & no, I am not religious...it helps knowing you are not alone & you are loved. If you can, try & get out and do some volunteer work, esp I where there are children. Perhaps opening up a little business where you are making things that don't cost much, say making jams or crocheting.....something to keep your hands busy & most importantly your mind, & hopefully make a little money to help you until you find other employment.

You may have to do something different than what you regularly do, but it seems that's the way of the world now....you know the saying ....we have to be bendable trees & go with the the wind & if we try to fight it, we break.....well something like that....but u get me, I think...take something that may be lesser in terms of what u r used to, to keep busy & to bring in some money, until things pick up...it's the same all over this world...it's just crazy out there...but it will get better...focus on the positive...I know it's difficult, but it's the best you can do for you.

Things will change & you will look back on this a stronger person. Nothing stays the same...everything is cyclical...what goes down must come up. You're gonna come out of this fine, just try & think positive. You have done great.....don't go back, it's not worth it. You have done so much & it's been a tuff road so pull yourself together & realize how much you deserve by not giving up on yourself....things will get better

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
