I was 33 BMI and reached goal in 7 months. Stay off the scale, follow your plan and let your body heal.

What was your goal? I start w/ a BMI of 35 & like author of this post I want to see the quick results. With a stall last week (and what seems to be this week also) Sometimes I think I'm trapped in this body. I know it's mind over matter, it's just tough when the scale seems broken lol

I started with a BMI of 32. My first appoitment to meet the doctor and committing to the surgery, I started PIGGING. I only had to be on the liquid diet 5 days prior to surgery. I was going from 183 to 188 then I started the liquid diet for the 5 days prior to surgery. The day of surgery...August 1st, I weighed 176. Two days ago I weighed 174.8 and today I am back up to 176! Having said all this was to say I have decided to let my body heal and stay off the scales. I still have so much swelling. The day after I was sleeved, I had to go back to the hospital and be given two bags of fluids for dehydration and had to come home with my drain tube because of bleeding. Finally got my drain tube out and am going to concentrate on healing and I will worry about weighing again in 3 or 4 weeks. For now, it's time to heal, sip and protein! I truly think starting with a lower BMI is going to mean losing at a slower pace but it's not about losing it overnight but more about a lifetime of better food choices :) Congrats on the weight you have already lost :)

I had surgery July 5 and have stalled for the last 3 weeks now. I am going crazy, I'm only eating 800 calories each day (maximum) and drinking my fluids. I was actually told by my surgeons office NOT to track anything except fluids and to not, under no circumstances, drink during meals. I haven't been able to walk due to a minor back injury but even eating 800 calories I should be losing SOMETHING. My NUT suggests actually eating vegetables first because they never see Protein deficiencies.

Regardless, I'm going insane from the stalling. No measurement changes, no weight changes. I try to keep a positive mindset but it's hard sometimes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
