Yesterday I had a Rita's Water ice and it was the worst mistake of my life I'm currently 17 days post op and I have no desire for solid food but I can drink water Popsicles and any liquids I don't have a problem getting down. Yesterday after I had the water ice which I didn't even eat the whole thing my stomach started cramping ungodly I broke out in sweats I had diarrhea. That did go away but a few hours later I started with chills and severe shakes I became dizzy got a fever more stomach cramping and more diarrhea... I know I did it to myself by having that water ice which wasn't sugar free but I'm really starting to second guess this surgery I'm miserable and I don't know how to cope until I can get to my new norm I feel like I'll never eat again ....any encouragement would help

This happened to me as well. I am 5 weeks post op and I went to a Mets game and the only thing I could eat was the minute made icy. I literally had a few bites and had diarrhea and I would also get the sweats and feel so deathly ill. I can't tell you what it is but I can tell you that it will pass! Don't feel regret, you'll get to a point where your body can tolerate more and everyone is different. I saw people that were eating solid foods two weeks post op and i was still puking Jello at almost 3 weeks post op. It gets gets better give your body time to deal and adjust to all the changes its going through. Stay hydrated and try to focus on Protein so you can heal up!

It will definitely pass. Everyone is made differently. Your body isn't handling sugar well, so it reacted badly. Please don't regret this! You are only just over 2 weeks post-OP. This is normal. Hang in there! :)

It was definitely from the sugar. It's similar to "dumping syndrome" in a bypass patient. Refined sugar (especially in liquid) travels through your sleeve very fast and enters your digestive track quickly and all at once...sending your body into a 'shock'.

I know that it sucks but it should serve as reinforcement that refined sugars and added sugars are pure poison. It's a hard way to learn that lesson but it's one I'm sure you won't forget...I know I won't!!!

Stick with your plan and stay positive. It does get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
