@@krazy kat I'm 30, and I'm pre-menopausal as it is (I had a hysterectomy at 27.) I just had my sleeve done on Monday. I know I'm not far out at all, but so far other than the normal recovery symptoms (pain, nausea, indigestion,) I'm mentally feeling good. The only other thing that is bugging me is ever since surgery I am up every hr or two throughout the night. I get sleep, but I'm not well rested. This could be due to just the recovery process as well and trying to get comfortable. Thank-you for posting this, I'm going to follow. :)

I was going through menopause at the time of surgery, still am. My emotions were off the charts. You have to remember there are other hormones at work as well and it is normal to simply have mood swings while going through such a significant change in your life.

For many food was there coping mechanism and now that is gone so it is only natural that it happens.

At least that is what I have been told and what I experienced.

Thanks for the replies because was not sure why sooo many seem to be going thru what they were calling hormonal changes. Glad I'm still in therapy to address issues popping up post op when they happen. Just trying to prepare myself ahead of time on what to expect. My RNY isn't until September 13TH so I have been prepping myself w info for almost a year.

Complications made me emotional, being so ill made me emotional, my family being upset made me emotional.

Not being able to use my routine comfort go tos (nice cup of coffee in the morning, tea and toast, eating a picnic with my granddaughter) made me emotional.

Watching my body change at 54, was sad. My sagging thighs, calves, arms and hips, made me emotional.

Not understanding what my body needs was confusing. Knowing I need Protein but not being able to take it in was upsetting.

Now though, I am learning that as long as I get my Fluid in each day, I will be okay.

Believing that I will eventually heal and figure this all out comforts me.

My friends comfort me, my prayer partners comfort me.

I have a counsellor who helps.

My family try to be supportive but of course they are frustrated and worried because I am still so ill.

I thought that I was mentally and emotionally prepared. I wasn't.

But everyday is a school day for Gina!

I know this will be life changing surgery. Did you have complications @ GinaCampbell? I'm excited yet getting nervous as time gets closer...doubts enter my head on whether I'm doing the right thing....I think this is all normal. Do you have any regrets?

Maybe don't read my journey my friend as I am the poster child for both unexpected complications and the after the fact realisation that vsg was not the right choice for me.

I am 40, just had VSG done 5 days ago and I have been emotional over the slightest things, my husband doing something for me or even saying something "cute"... just writing it makes me emotional... so yes, I have experienced it and still do.... it has to get better!

I am 64 and had gastric bypass surgery June 7. Had complications and a 2nd surgery on June 20. I have not felt the "up and down" hormonal craziness that I remember from menopause. I have had minor increases in sexual desire - never a bad thing and a little trouble sleeping.

I am 61. My insurance just approved gastric bypass surgery for me a week ago. Have not been given a date as of yet. I've completed all appointments & lost alittle weight like my doctor wanted me to. I'm feeling very anxious about if I'm doing the right thing or not by having surgery. My children (all adults) very much want me to do the surgery in the hope it will help with other medical problems I now have like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, diabetes, etc. I'm just concerned about complications from surgery & getting along alone afterwards. Also used food because I get bored alot by myself. Am I too old do others think???

I'm 65 and having bypass, so you're not too old Ms Pink. I want to live longer and I know dropping this weight is going to help me do that. Living longer living healthier is worth the surgery to me. U got this!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
