Breaking my silence; my demons and my future.

Recommended Posts

As most (I can imagine) I've been lurking through many forums gathering all of the information I possibly can before visiting my bariatric surgeon for a consultation on August 9th. I've made an appointment with my primary care specialist for the first to expedite the process of insurance approval (bcbs) I am a bit nervous for one reason I have been extremely fourth coming with my past with my PCP in which I struggled with methampetimine addiction (take a wild guess one of the reasons that became my drug of choice) anyhow I am about a year and 5 months in recovery and successfully completed rehabilitation. I am very scared that bariatric surgeon may see that as a hinderance over a tool. I truly believe that everything I learned in that time about my worth and building my support systems are things that will be invaluable to me through this process. I'm scared of this entire process. I'm also very ready. I believe the potential I have is just barely beginning to be tapped into. Any support of experience anyone may have similar to mine that could ease my mind a bit would be greatly appreciated.

Methamphetamine is great for weight loss. I'm not sure if you admit that you recently used that you will be approved through insurance. I remember having to sign that I was substance free, including alcohol, for a specific period of time but I don't remember how long. The psychologist also asked me 30 different ways about past alcohol/drug use. I happened to never try anything other than alcohol so I was safe. My only addiction was to greasy food.

I expect that, my insurance covered part of the cost of my rehab as well. I liked my body a lot when I was using the problem was when I got clean I ended up going into "survival mode" about 3 to 4 months out I started applying my recovery tools to the way I was eating to address "cross addiction" wherever possible. Thankyou for your input! I am really hoping that after he speaks to me he can see I'm coming from a grounded place in my soul. Fingers crossed.

Just remember if insurance won't cover you and you feel you absolutely must have the surgery, you can finance a vastly cheaper sleeve by excellent doctors in Mexico. I got sleeved at OCC by Dr. Ortiz just 9 days ago and feel amazing! Good luck on your continued recovery!

You could ask the doctor about pain medication.. Maybe you can use MotrinTylenol after surgery? Being in recovery this long is Awesome

Would hate for you to go back to using with pain meds? Just something to think about. Good Luck :-)

I did not want anything strong and my Dr and his assistant knew that up front, my husband had a problem with pain meds so I don't want them in the house even.. you should be fine, I am on Day 4 and I am ok, I was told to use tylenol for pain which has been fine.. good luck to you! I wish you the best! ????

Congrats on your recovery. Though your situation may differ from mine, I also have bcbs and they approved me. However, I do have to do 6 months of dietary counseling on which only have 2 months to go on. October. Hope all goes well, keep us posted!

Thanks

Dan

@@#9grammy I am not as worried about the pain medication due to the vastly different effects of the drugs. I've had a tonsillectomy and wisdom teeth removal prior to seeking this and opioid based medications don't react with my body well they tend to make me very queasy. From an addict perspective I guess this is a blessing I do hope that the pain is well managed with something less heavy.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
