Banding set for August 27!!

Recommended Posts

What a weekend! My nausea and stomach pain was so awful, that I went to ER . I was told that we all heal differently, and that its not unheard of for people to experience this 2 weeks post op. Just got home and need to relax. Wishing everyone a speedy recovery!!!
,

Didn't your surgeon send you home with antinausea medicine? Are you pushing liquids especially Water or flavored water like Propel? I hope you feel better soon. I also was banded on the 27th but haven't had too much pain since Thursday. Take real good care of yourself okay?

Update on ME!

Today is day 7. I feel better each and every day. I can tell the swelling inside the stoma is going down because its easy for me to put down Soup, Water, etc. Much easier.... if you can remember back to day one and that first sip of water you took, or even your first ice chip! How scary was that?

I've lost 12 pounds so far and I can see it in my face. This makes me feel good. My skin has actually cleared up and I look refreshed.

I've graduated in foods. I am eating similar foods to my 11 month old son! LOL ~~~~~~ I was able to tolerate oatmeal today. It really filled me up for about 4 hours. I noticed as soon as I drink some water I could feel more hunger. Oatmeal is the first real 'substance' I have had.

In addition to oatmeal, I also stocked the kitchen with creamy Soups, yogurt, SF popsicles/fudgesicles, V8.

Creative: Mix cream of broccoli soup with cheddar cheese soup. Of course they are the 'light' kind. Really good.

Stiches are a bit itchy, port is still a tad sore and I've only had two BMs in a week. (tmi)

Next week we all get to eat eggs and cheese! Yummy! I'm makin' Breakfast next Monday! Wish you all lived closer! Haha...

I drank a 10oz Cream of Broc soup tonight. After I "eat" I feel bloated for a little while - I don't think it's really "full" or at least what full felt like before. I haven't really been hungry yet though - just eating what I am suppose to. (Still having ridiculous food cravings though)

I've never felt any type of swelling or tightness. :cry Even the first few sips of Water and broth in the hospital. I'm thinking I might end up being one of those people that takes forever to get to restriction. :speechles

Hi everyone,

It is Monday night and I feel human again!! I actually went to the mall today for a bit. I was careful not to over do it this time. That can be painful! I have to admit I'm hungry every 3 hours. I can't tolerate the cream Soups yet. Not much dairy at all actually. Oh well...hope all is well or at least much better with everyone!!

Candle, sorry I have been missing for a few days. Of course my Monday day surgery, wasn't so day surgery after all. I came home on Friday. For those of you that do not know me, my name is Clara. Can you believe my band slipped right off the bat. Could not pass the barium swallow at all. By Wednesday, I was in surgery for 2.5 hours. But everything is great now. I stepped on scales and I have lost 14.6 pounds.

My daughter is giving me a real test of my will power now. I do not want this to kill this wonderful thread, but she is an alcholic. She is a teacher, pre school kids. She was asked to resign. She is now refusing to answer her phone and talk to me. I will be at her house Wednesday if I do not talk to her before then. Anyway, back to the true test. Usually when I stress like that, the first thing I reach for is a Diet Coke. Well, I sure wanted one!!!!! But of course i resisted.

Everyone sounds like they survived our 27th date together. Candle and Shelli, I promise to be more present and concentrate on this instead of my daughter who wants no help.

I'm back to work today. Anyone else?

I work from home so it shouldn't be that bad but of course my office didn't take care of much while I was out. I've returned to a huge mess!!!

I haven't had any gas pains since like Friday - maybe a little Saturday - but both my shoulders are sore today. I wonder if I just slept funny? For the last 2 nights I have been able to sleep on my stomach again! :whoo:

(Claramae - I'm going to send you an PM)

Claramae, sorry to hear about you daughter. This is your time to recover from you surgery and concentrate on you but I know there is no way you/we can turn our back on our loved ones. My son is also a recovered alcoholic so please know that I can sympathize on how worried you are about your daughter. If there is anything I can do for you please feel free to write me.

Congratulations on your weight loss of 14+ pounds. It is so exciting isn't it - every morning we wake up to a new and smaller and healthier body!!! I have to go to the doctor this afternoon for my 1 week check up. I am hoping he will move me up to pureed/mushy foods as the Protein shakes and Soups are getting very tedious and I have been only eating about 500 calories per day. Last night I was soooooooooooooo hungry for the first time.

Claramae, please take care of yourself and hang in there - okay. I look forward to hearing more from you soon.

Thanks Shelli---Let me know what the dr. says. I am going to go to town(I live 13 miles from shopping areas) and buy myself something. Not clothes however. However, this is my problem about getting dressed. My port in middle of chest area. What about my bra right now? I guess I could find an oversize shirt and go braless. What a sight that will be!!! We will talk later.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your concern! I am feeling better today, and am counting on progressing each day. I was fitted with the newer AP Band, and was told it is more restrictive, right off the bat. I am wondering if my pain was so bad because of this. Any one else fitted with AP Band?

Hi Arie,

Yes, the AP Band is the newer one. Although, I really need to research it to compare. How did your post op visit go today? Was your esophagram okay? Hope you are feeling well:)

One of my steri-strips finally came off last night!!!!! :clap2:

I can't wait for these gross things to come off. There are a few little "things" sticking of the scab. It looks like a coarse clear thread. Maybe a few of the inside stitches?

I can't wait for port strip to come off - I want to see how it looks.

Were you guys advised to put anything on the incisions? Bacitracin maybe?

Candle, I was told not to put anything on my incisions. The doc did take off all my steri-strips at my week visit. She said that baby oil will take off the stickiness. She just said to make sure to do it right before showering or the baby oil will seap into the wounds.

I was given the o.k. to add cheese, eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, and mashed potatoes to my list of foods. Warning about eggs! I took one egg and scrambled it with a slice of cheese. I chewed it thoroughly and by the time I ate half of it... I was very sick. I found out what getting food stuck is like and the wonderful thing they call sliming! Not fun!!! I finally had to throw it up because I was heaving a lot anyway. I figured it would do less damage to just get it out. I know TMI. But I just wanted to warn you.

Other than that, I feel great. I love getting full so fast!

hi lighternyc and everyone else

my surgeon stood me up:omg:, he had emergency surgery, said if i was doing ok, to schedule my fill, which i did Sept 27, i have found i can eat any thing, not good, need a fill soon:hungry:, dont think i'm having a esophagram, has not been mentioned, but i definitely dont have any problem eating or swallowing, i guess it must be the new AP band, i understand things will change after my fill.

i took my steri strips off, yes they do put sutures in the sites, and yes a thread could stick out. not unusual, i work in a hospital.

hope everyone is doing well, take care!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
