Banding set for August 27!!

Recommended Posts

To everyone I met on this thread. Thank you for being there during my most stressed days. I am not frightened any more just looking forward to the new adventure and the new learning process. I am just so glad I never have to drink another Carnation Instant Breakfast - I had my last one at seven p.m.

We WILL be back after tomorrow and we will get healthy and wise together.

I will pray for everyone tonight.

Talk to you on the other side---------------------------------

I just wanted to send my wishes to all. I had surgery on Thursday, Aug 23, about 3 PM and I am feeling fantastic. I took the pain meds, rested, sipped Water, walked, rested, sipped, took pain meds........etc, etc and by this afternoon I am on Tylenol only and sipping thinned pureed chicken noodle Soup. It was my first surgery and I was terrified! All med staff were so kind and good and my doc was the greatest. If a big chicken like me can get through it---ANYONE CAN DO IT! I would not hesitate to do it all over again in a heartbeat. Sending good vibes your way.

I had my banding at 7:30AM Jersey time. The gas they use to distend your stomach is killing me. I started walking and now it is much better.

How did everyone make out?

Well folks-We made it!! It's 3:30 am Wednesday morning. I was cleared yesterday at 1pm to go home. Took them 1 1/2 hours to get a wheelchair and take me to the car. I could have already drove home three times.:car:I was exhausted and cranky :mad:and not a happy camper. Everyone in recovery was fantastic! They took great care of me and made me very comfortable. Amen for warm toasty blankets! :clap2:Everyone was great once I got a room, but when night came, that's when my lovely visit took a turn for the worse. I got no sleep at all Monday night. It was very noisy (I was right outside the nurses station)not to mention folks coming in every 1/2 hour to check on me. I guess the best thing is that it's over! The worst thing is the gas. I hurt constantly from it. I've tried Gas-X peppermint strips. Yuck! They don't really seem to help much. Walking seems to help more than anything. That's why I'm up at this hour instead of sleeping! :ranger: My son was very happy to see me. He was alot more worried about Mommy than he let on.:nervous My surgery was over by 10:30 am, but it was 3pm before they got me a room. I guess that's because it takes 1 1/2 hours to get the folks trying to leave the room a ride out...My family and friends all thought something was wrong because they had told us that I would be in recovery 2 hours tops. Oh well, it ended well anyhow.

So here I am, gassy and sassy:p! Drank some chicken broth for dinner. Had a SF popsicle before bed. Sip sip sip the Water. Guess I'd better head back to bed. :notagreeBest wishes to all. look forward to seeing more posts from my 27th buddies. Bye, Kat

To all of my fellow Aug. 27th banders...

I hope you are all doing well. I'll be glad when all this gas leaves! I'm so uncomfortable! I'm walking and taking Maalox, but still feeling 12 months pregnant! LOL I do a little happy dance every time I am able to let some gas out! Which by the way, my family finds very weird! Ha ha

My incisions only hurt when I move from laying to sitting or when I bend over. I find laying on my stomach comforting, I'm hoping that is o.k.

I'm sticking to liquids, but will tire of this soon. Especially after 4 weeks of shakes pre-op! I swish when I walk!

I'm keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers!

I am a bandster now. My surgery was August 27th and my Doctor said it was a "textbook surgery" even though I ended up with 8 incisions instead of the 4 or 5. I had no nausea and got up on my own every fours hours to pee and walk the halls. Didn't get much sleep that night. Felt like a human pin cushion by the time Tuesday morning came. Was so glad when my surgeon came in my room to tell me I could go home that day. I was certainly ready. When I got home though I couldn't believe how hard it was to get out of the recliner and the bed so I had to implement some homemade solutions like big puffy pillows and kitchen stool and my old cane and my extender grabber. Killed a spider in the bathroom and could not bend down and pick it up with kleenex. So my DH had to come to the rescue.

Today is Day 3 and only had to take pain meds one time but will lake my liquid Lortab before bed. Don't feel hungry yet but pushing the liquids big time.

I hope everyone is on the mend and I will talk to you soon.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I had my surgery at 4pm on Monday. Everything went very smoothly. I didn't sleep very much that first night in the hospital. I was extremely nauseous. I threw up once and had the dry heaves many times. My doctor didn't seem all that concerned about it and my x-ray and barium swallow showed everything was fine - of course I'm still worrying about it - lol!

I haven't had any pain really - I've only taken Tylenol since I came home on Tues afternoon. I did take some Nyquil last night to help me sleep - that's been my biggest problem - I just can't get comfortable at night. (I usually sleep on my stomach)

Luckily my gas pain hasn't been too bad either - I had a lot yesterday but seem to be ok today. Mostly burping - which doesn't feel so good. Taking a shower yesterday was like heaven!!!

I started back to full liquids today - my tummy has been grumbling. Who knew I'd be happy to have Soup again?! lol

Hi All,

So glad to hear everyone is doing well, gassy, but well! All of mine is up in my left shoulder. Walking seems to help the most. I haven't been at all adventurous with my meals yet, although that egg drop Soup is sounding really yummy....maybe I'll make that tomorrow. Well ta-ta for now my friends. Hope everyone has a restful night!

Hi Everyone,

We did it!! Had my surgery at 9:30AM and everything went smoothly. I couldnt believe how round and hard my belly was! Thank God my gas is breaking up. Ive been waking up in the middle of the night finding it difficult to take deep breaths because my ribs hurt. Anyone else experiencing this?

I haven't had that problem with deep breaths but my tummy is still very hard. Feels like I'm pregnant!

I can't really tell if the Gas X is helping but I've been taking it.

I have a spot under my port site that is forming a nice yellow bruise and today started looking a little red. It also feels warm to the touch - I don't have a fever though so I'm just going to watch it for now.

I feel like such a hypochondriac - lol!!

I'm trying to work on getting in enough liquids - I've only been averaging about 36ozs and I know I need to do better.

Hi everyone,

Is anyone experiencing spasms around where the banding would be running up your throat? They last a few seconds but are tough! Also is anyone else nauseous? I think I am getting scared at this point.

Advice please! What foods is everyone eating? I think mine are making me nauseous.

Thanks!!

Jody

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
