Needing an Accountability Buddy or Mentor

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone:

I'm beyond excited to have my Gastric Bypass surgery on August 29, 2016, one month away, and I would love to have a support buddy/Mentor who is going through the same surgery or has already had it.

I live in Mississippi and I'm 56... I'm looking for someone who is interested in having someone to team up with that we can help one another to give encouragement, and support to. I believe that a support system is imperative to having great success. I am ready to lose the old habits and looking forward to becoming the healthiest I can be. I am counting down the days!

Please let me know if you are interested in a Buddy also.

I couldn't meet-up but could lend encouragement through here, I had mine done on Tuesday, I will say that when I woke up it honestly sucked! however here I am today 3 days later and the only real pain I have is some abdominal pain and still a bit bloated from the gas used to fill your stomach.

after surgery I will say take it slow, drink VERY slowly they say a ounce of Fluid should take you 5mins to drink, I had my last real food on sunday and haven't eaten anything up until today (friday) and have zero appetite, I had to force myself to do my Protein shakes today and I'm on my 2nd one today and should drink two more to get my required Protein in for the day which I will unlikely do, because physically I can't handle it but if you don't do anything MAKE SURE you get your protein in, also after surgery, not sure if it's case by case but I was extremely nauseated and any smells and taste made me sick. after the surgery they will give you control of your meds but by the second night they will remove it and give you liquid pain meds which I couldn't stomach the cherry taste, so it came back up have them switch your meds I laid there all night in pain until the dr switched me to hydromorophone tabs. which works will..all in all I'm very happy, oh be careful of hiccups they run a drain tube in from your diaphragm to the side usually right under your breast plate this caused me severe hiccups which isn't fun after getting cut on lol. so if this is a issue by day two ask the dr if that can be the issue, he came in and pulled it out as soon as he did my hiccups went away immediately. so I'll be here, open ear if you need anything. best of luck to you!!

Jon

Thanks Jon, and congrats on your surgery and sounds like you have some great advice. I am sure I will be asking you more questions later on. I sure hope I do not have to have the tube or get the hiccups. Yikes!

What I meant was to have someone be a support buddy online or to text with, not to meet up.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
