New from Philly

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I just posted in the NJ thread as well for Southern NJ folks as well.

I will be banded in Mexico in a few short days (8/29!) :whoo::omg: and the more I read, the more I realize how critical after care support is with others who've done this. Learning how to eat, what to eat, how to deal with emotions, what to do at work, social situations, etc. There are a few support groups I could join with clinicians present, but they're not close to my area (NYC is the closest I could fine)

So...I am taking matters into my own hands! So far, I have someone else from Philly interested (she's from another board) and now someone from South NJ. Any others??? I don't think we have to be that close to each other -- if we could just meet once a month on the weekend, and combine it with something that I INTEND on becoming fun (e.g., mall shopping!!) then I think we could all meet somewhere. What do you think?

Any thoughts appreciated -- those who want to join, let me know! ;)

Thanks, Danielle

Hi I'm Amy and I had my surgery 8/13/08! I'm able to eat so much more than I thought I would at this stage, and I've regained about 3+ pounds of the 15 I lost in the pre and post op liquid diet stage.

I suppose this is normal. I am not yet allowed to exercise (I can walk but not "power walk" and am not yet allowed on my treadmill and cannot do most of my aerobic housecleaning yet).

I am adjusting to this fine, and it kind of worries me. LOL, I suppose it is just an indication that my body knows how to heal and that when I see the Dr. on 10/2 he will determine that I'm ready for my first fill.

Hope to meet people in my area (Northern/Northeastern suburbs of Philly). I went to my hospital's support group last night, as I usually do, but I seem to be the only bander in the bunch. Not much of what is asked relates to me.

Thanks to all.

Amy

You should try Pennsylvania Hospital group meeting. It is the last Tuesday of the month down on 8th and Spruce Streets. I just got banded on 9/24 and I love going to those meetings. There is a good mixture of gastric and banders living and talking in harmony.:-)

Thanks. I live up near Jenkintown so PA hospital is a bit far for me on a work night, but I will certainly keep it in mind!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
