#shakes, and I want real food. I am starving! I wish I could have my first adjustment sooner than 2 months. This just seems rediculous to me, I am ready for my 1st adjustment now. Please share your comments, and advice, I am really struggling. Thanks.

p.s How are other people gauging frequency of liquids/shakes if you don't feel full or restriction. ex.- I am supposed to drink 1oz. every 15 min., and this is extremelly hard when I have a lot of pill sto take at once, and when I'm very hungry or thursty.:hungry:

Hi Liz, first, congrats on the surgery! Soon this will all be forgotten and it will pass faster than you think. the good news is that now you should be on full liquids (1 week out) and that opens up some alternates that seem more like real food. you can have Tomato Soup, and any other cream Soups that you can dream up. if they have bits of stuff , like mushroom or clam, etc, you should put it in the chopper or blender and puree it. yogurt(no fruit on botton), diet pudding.....this is only for 1 week then you get "mushies" :)!!! you can go to the mushie thread for lots of ideas. you really can't have the fill too soon, the stomach needs to heal or you could have a real problem and do damage.( that could mean more weeks of liquids!)

I don't understand the 1 oz in 15 min thing, that would take 2 hrs to get down 1 shake!! I was lucky if I could slow it down to 10 min. for the whole:rolleyes I think that is only if you are having trouble getting it down. I NEVER had any problem getting anything down untill my 2ed fill.....:cry, now I'm getting restriction issues.

I think you can just drink the shakes as tollerated (sp?) you can also have "snacks" in between as per your dr. I would have the Protein Drinks as Snacks and a pureed veggy Soup as a meal. when I got REALLY hungry i'd just have a little more soup. Just use your head and you will get through :) Good luck, let us know how you do!

Liz: Banded same day you were. I am also starving & it is so hard to take my son to get Burger King, etc... & serve him & not chomp down on it. Hang in there....I know exactly what you are going through. Get some Sugar Free Chocolate pudding. That is a real treat. I bought the one with Splenda. I've been on Soups & baby food mostly but am dying for some real food. Sometimes I think....what if I had this or that but I am too scared of it coming back up so I guess my fear keeps me in check for now.:heh:

This is my first posting! I was banded 8/20 and I am 5 days out and cannot wait until next Monday to eat something else besides popcicles, Jello and broth. I did have some cream of chicken Soup yesterday with a little skim milk, about 4 teaspoons. That really helped. It is going to be hard for me because my son is getting married next week and we will have food galore there. I have lost 12 lbs since Sunday but I know I will gain it back when I get to eat. When can I have mashed potatoes?

Just wanted to let you know you are not the only person looking for :help:.

Protein shakes are the way to go! I was banded on 7/23... when I felt hungry during the 'liquid' period other than at meal time I would make a nice thick Protein Shake in the blender. I used (and still use) Hood Calorie Countdown chocolate milk, Protein shake powder, and 2 or 3 ice cubes... Delicious! Like a thick milkshake and very filling! YOU CAN DO IT!

I am starving too~! I was banded on Tuesday. It's Friday night and I really need some food. I think I bought the wrong kind of stuff preop. I bought a whole bunch of meat baby food and it grosses me out. It reminds me of dogfood so I gave it to my puppies and of course they love it! I think I am going to go out tomorrow and go shopping and get Gas X strips because of the pain in my shoulder and also get some healthy but tastier food. I have been eating cottage cheese and really like it because it is full of Protein. I have the sugar free ice pops, Jello, pudding etc. I need to figure out more Protein rich foods to eat that are pureed. I had some skim plus today and I warmed it up and put sugar free hot chocolate and equal in it and it was such a treat! Do you guys know more protein rich foods that are not too fattening that happen to taste good (not like god aweful meat baby food, uch!):)

Hello fellow bandsters. I am posting my first post.:clap2: I just had my lapband surgery on 8/16/07, and am already starving! I am defineately having a hard time dealing with monotonous shakes, and I want real food. I am starving! I wish I could have my first adjustment sooner than 2 months. I am suprised how different some people's diets are. I cant have cottage cheese until Monday. I am doing the Carnation Instant Breakfast with skim milk in between meals and that really helps. It is so funny I can't wait for oatmeal and mashed potatoes. How long did you have to wait before you can eat those things?

Banded8/20/07

Down 16 lbs today!!

I think technically I am allowed to have oatmeal and mashed potatoes, however, they say that you are supposed to have 50 grams of Protein a day so my nutritionist said you need to eat the meat/protein stuff first and then eat the rest of the stuff and then it should be eaten in moderation. I am not really craving carbs. I just want to find protein stuff that doesnt gross me out, as I was kind of a vegetarian preop (not a strict veg, but I would eat mostly non meat stuff and eat steak once every 6 mos).

Are you sure you haven't skipped a week???:huggie: it's so much info to take in, your post op plan is really a bit ahead of most of us....the first week is generally always "full Liquid" which does NOT include cottage cheese, oatmeat or mashed anything. those are considered "mushies" that come on week 2...also 60 grams is the lowest protein recomended I've heard. I think if you want to keep from losing hair you might want to go for 60. anyway, good luck all . did they tell you that untill you start to get fills that you really don't have any restriction, it's like not having it at all! So if you are hungry now not to worry, that will change!

On my diet the nutritionist said the first day is Clear liquids, the 2nd day is full liquids and after that I can do mushies. However, she doesnt want me to do oatmeal, potatoes, etc because she wants me to do mostly Protein. She said cottage cheese and ricotta (lowfat or nonfat) are fine. She said 50 grams of Protein per day is fine. I dont want to lose my hair; that freaks me out! It is not even like I am that hungry. I see real food on tv like pastrami and want it! I was watching the food channel all day yesterday (probably not a great move!) and they were doing this thing with Elton brown about diners across america and I was craving real food. So I went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of things like cottage cheese, sugar free tapioca pudding, hummus etc.

It does appear that doctor's are different. I am on liquids for 3 weeks with 92 grams of Protein, then pureed for another 3 weeks with 72 grams of Protein. After that I am to slowly add food to my diet with and do 65 grams of protein for maintenance. I am very hungry and just finished cooking for my family. I must admit I did "taste or lick to see if it was seasoned right". I just couldn't help it and had to cook. I'm sipping on 4 oz of chicken broth in another room while they eat. I'm going to be strong though. This is a little sacrifice for a lot of rewards!! Stay strong:)!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
