August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Recommended Posts

My banding was Aug 21, 2007. From all the info on this site, I feel my Dr. is rather lack in allowing food, compared to other Drs. He is also a lapbander, so I feel he knows what he is doing and I am doing fine with his rules, so I can't complain. I can only have "canned" meats at this point, but next week I go to real meats. The only limitation is no beef or pork until after my fill on 9/17.

I went to the Dr. office yesterday and saw a tech, just to get a release back to work, so I did not get any info on my band yet. I had the questions but she did not have my file and the Dr. was in surgery. So I will wait until 9/17 to get that info. But, trust me, I have lots of questions for him on that day. I was advised to know the size of your band and how much is in it just in case you move or are away and something is wrong you have the information with you.

WOW! You get canned meats. Lucky you! I was banded 8/21 and still have to do liquids for the next 6 days. It's neat that your Dr is banded too! Congrats!

I was banded Aug 23 with the AP Band, and the mfg of that band includes an info brochure for life with the band and also a small business card that includes all the data of the band, size, registration number etc. My dr gave it to me to laminate and keep in my wallet. Just an idea.

As for me, Dr T said I had the largest liver he had ever seen. Great. BUT it isn't diseased and he said the fat tissue will go away with weight loss. Because of the liver size, my surgery was three hours and I was pretty sore. The band is very tight. Dr told me the tightest he's ever seen on a woman. And I was "only" 252 pounds! Funny how that works.

Because it's so tight, I have the "want to burp, but can't burp" feeling all the time. Even just liquids. The day after surgery, I got two vicodin pills stuck and they sizzled away and burned my little stomach pouch. Ouch! It is just getting better.

ANYWAY, the good news is I have lost 15 pounds in this last week. He told me to try one more week of liquid and enjoy another 10-15 lb. loss, OR start pureed foods in three days. Hmmmmmmm????????? We shall see!

I've read this thread from start to finish and now I can't remember what I wanted to tell a couple of you! Argh! Senior Moment!! :faint:

On the liquids, I found that V8 juice flavored with unflavored powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein was a very filling choice. Same thing with their chicken Soup flavor and chicken broth.

I'll try to remember what it was I thought I could offer and come back later. Right now my tummy (port incision) is feeling like it's being pulled, so I'm off the computer for a bit.

Good luck All!!!!! :) Picklebritches

My doctor gave me a script for Vicodin as well. I was surprised - I was expecting a liquid pain killer. Luckily, I've been ok with just Tylenol because I think I'd be too scared to take them. The pharmacist advised not crushing them either.

Picklebritches,

Wow, so V8 juice is considered liquid? Also, where do you get the unflavored unjury Protein from? I'm so tired of the Chocalate Soy from GNC. I need to eat something salty now other than chicken broth, uuggh!

Hi everyone, im 8 days out of surgery and starting to feel HUNGRY for real food... thought I was doing well but the SMELLS are killing me.

Oh, I can so relate. What I wouldn't do for a BBQ steak and baked potato! :hungry:

I will say that although there is no restriction, I still feel different. The food feels differently going down - and that isn't my imagination.

I feel that too. It's a weird new sensation, like an allien in my tummy. LOL I've noticed it's tighter in the mornings. Anyone else notice that too?

Im starving, and I would kill for a nice full chimichanga. But jell-o will have to do :(

Yumm! Did you have to speak of it by name?!?! LOL!!!

Today was my weigh day to. Im reallying pushing to lose 40lbs for the month of august.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's amazing! You're so close! You can do it! :boxing:

burp without any warning. Has anyone else had this?

I get to move onto pureed foods as of 9/4!

Yep. I get the burps too. I hope it passes, 'cause it's kinda embarrassing.:eek

I too am counting down to 9/4, the mushies day 1!!!

I'm doing much better overall-- very little discomfort, no bad side affects. The head and tongue hunger is whats driving me nuts. I see commercials for these big juicy cheese burgers and I get sad that I can never pig out on one of those again. :faint: I am so messed up about food, which is exactly why I need this band so badly. Nanna, I can so relate.. How do we cope? My mind keeps going to the old "go out for a yummy lunch/dinner with DH" solution.

I'm very glad to be banded. Thank God I found this message board! We'll get through this together!

Rumar, I found unjury.com through my surgeon's office. My original purchase was chocolate, chicken Soup and unflavored. I had read about it on this forum.

The only problem is the Protein count is only 20 or so per scoop BUT my doc just suggested some ways to increase to 2 scoops in one serving.

For example, 8 oz skim milk + 1 scoop chocolate + 1 scoop unflavored. I tried this and it was good, but I added about 2 more oz milk. (You can do this with any Protein shake, and if your product leaves a "protein taste" in your mouth, then add 1/2 pkg dry sugar free pudding mix such as Cheesecake or Butterscotch to the chocolate or strawberry to the vanilla shake.) Did that make sense?? It really works.

If you have pre-made Protein drinks, dump one into a tall glass and add 1 scoop unflavored. Doubles the Protein without doubling the drinking!

My favorite was chicken broth with 1 scoop Unjury chicken soup. Yummy!

V8 juice with 1 scoop unflavored and a dash of pepper and I have a Bloody Mary! :car:

Good luck and hope this helps! :(

Candle, it was a nightmare for me and I didn't take another one after. Just liquid tylenol. Dr said it would take time to heal and it has. I can't imagine what one of those would taste like crushed - ewwwwwwww!

:)

I am a month out and on the stage 4 diet. Since then, I haven't lost any weight this week, just jumping around +/- 5lbs, and it is quite annoying. I know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but it is bizzare to see me gain 5lbs in a matter of hours, only to lose it by morning and start all over again.

i know what you mean. i also had that and used gas-x & it helped. i go back to work tomarrow and am alittle concerned about the gas thing. i have been eating mashed potatoes w/gravy egg drop Soup, yougert . tuna & meats sound great! they also have chicken spread which looks like is pureed with few little pieces and is white meat(bought but havn't tried yet) am so glad for the info from you both! i was banded on aug 15 by dr benevides in richardson. i have lost 20 lbs since pre surgery diet & til today. hope it keeps coming off

I too was banded in Richardson, TX by Dr. Felts on 8/28. I am very impressed by the staff both at the surgery center and at the doc's office. They are so helpful. Anyway, I am coming along slowly but surely. I too have the burping...sometimes like a little bomb going off:phanvan. I have to try the Gas-X. Hoping that the 'referred' pain in my shoulder goes away soon. It is really a bummer. :cry I am especially happy to hear all the great 'receipes' that everyone has for the 'mushy stage' of this journey. Never thought I would be looking so forward to mashed or pureed anything but I am. I just want something that isn't sweet. I did well on the pre-op and I'm looking forward to going in for my post-op visit in a month.:(

Hi y'all! I was banded on Monday, the 27th. I just flew back from Mexico today. I feel good overall. Of course, I am still on Clear liquids. Feeling a little hunger, but not too bad. Slight headache, and some pressure where the band is.... I think from gas build up. Been walking a lot to avoid that shoulder pain, success so far. I can' wait to start eating yogurt! And my Protein shakes. I think this will give me more energy. I am very tired right now due to not eating.

On a more positive note, my doctor was awesome! Dr. Lopez-Corvala. The hospital was great, the staff was great. I had a good time. I even got released to go shopping yesterday! I feel no anxiety like I thought I would. I'm also down 10 pounds in just 4 days. yippi!!!!!!

Wow-wee! Everyone is doing so great with the weight loss. Yesterday, I got into a pair of capris that I haven't had on since Father's Day 2005! And, I only wore them once. They never fit after that. The woes of obesity! Hopefully, they are all in the past!

Hubby said to me....."did you go out shopping for clothes already?" when he saw me. He'll be asking that a lot over the next few months, I'm guessing. I've got lots of clothes that I just grew out of.....real quick!!! Some things never even made it on my body......I grew out of them before I had a chance to wear them. The battle of obesity really is a WAR! One we are all on the road to winning!!!!

Thank God I did this! Thank God we all did this!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
