13 months post and still not there yet....

I have decided to revisit the site hoping to gain perspective and pep. I have been feeling a bit defeated since I am 13 months post op and haven't made it to 100lbs lost. I have read other peoples experience and most have been more successful that I have been. I am 31 lbs from the 100lbs and I know that I am going to get there, it is just that time is moving very slowly and I really want to get there already.

My journey has not been without challenge. Between anemia and hypothyroidism, the struggle has been real. My health has tested my patience and at time the ability to stand on my own two feet, and the tiredness is sometimes too much.

What do you I do?

@@baoros - I feel your pain! ;) I have lost 66lbs in 13months since surgery and lost 40 presurgery.

All you CAN do is make sure you are on plan and if you are not change what you're eating. Change things up. Our bodies get used to what we do so change food and exercise up. Just keep plugging along. I have not exercised and I should start but I haven't done it yet, my bad. I don't like to complain too much because I have not exercised. Sometimes I wish I had gone with the gastric bypass. But I didn't and I don't really have the money to do a revision and I really wonder if that would help anyway. I am still losing but its very slow. I keep worrying about running out the honey moon period and still have weight to lose.

Hang in there. I'm sure you'll get more replies. Think positive thoughts. You didn't mention your age so if you are older that might make a difference plus you have thyroid issues and I would think that would affect your weight loss too.

You mentioned being tired. Are you taking Vitamins, are you eating enough? I had very deep exhaustion that lasted about 6 months. Its gotten a lot better but my energy is not what I would like it to be. Exercise, I'm sure would help that.

Anyway...Maybe you could let us know more on your food and if you exercise...

You don't have any of your surgery information filled out. What weight did you start at? what weight are you currently at? Do you log your food? What are your carbs and Protein?

I am 36 and was 279 on the day of surgery. No longer keeping a food journal but I am reconsidering measuring my foods again. I am quite aware of what I am eating. I try to eat more Protein, vegetables and fruits and keep eating sugars at bay. However, I feel like I have to continue drinking Protein shakes to meet my daily Protein goals. I actually prefer salty foods over sugars. Working out has been difficult, I tend to pass out at random times so it has been difficult for both me and friends who are less likely to want to be overly active. Lots of arguments there. Can i say my hormones are at war? that is another issue I didn't really focus on and was not prepared for Honestly, I wish there were people close by that I could work out with. I just don't know.

Are you taking thyroid med and if so, when did you last have it checked and possibly adjusted? Hypothyroid can make you very tired and prohibit weight loss. Be sure that is treated appropriately.

I would go back to logging. You say you are very aware of what you eat but without logging, do you know how many grams of Protein / carbs / fat and calories you are getting? food logs are very helpful to identify areas you might be able to improve.

All I do is walk. I just walked today and burned almost 1000 calories with walking.

Download Pokemon Go, and work on leveling up. That is all the exercise you need.

Have they determined why you are passing out? Have you had any testing?

I walk for the most part around my apartment building and I try to get out everyday so I can log my steps. I enjoy being active and going to the beach, it is just stressful to have sudden rapid heartbeat and feeling sick but I try to go out regardless. It is just weird and scary for those around me if I get sick or pass out.

I should go back to logging, upping my Protein can never hurt. I am on thyroid medication, and I am being monitored currently to see if between my low thyroid and anemia they are causing my episodes.

This experience is stressful but on the upside, I have all my hair and I am wearing leggings. By the way, most comfortable article of clothing ever.

Hi there

I would go back to measuring food and tracking it with my fitness pal. Do you have a fit bit or any other step measurer? It does not matter how slow you are losing as long as you are losing.

I still have the app fitness pal but have stopped using it for the most part. I have a fitbit but may get the pocket version. Slow but steady right. Thank you. Reminders are so helpful

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
