Have you all been given a calorie goal? I wasn't give one. I'm on the soft food stage until July 28. I'm only 11 days post op and my calorie intake was between 60-115 calories per day and now being on mushy foods for a day, I got in 415 and I feel like a whale after so many calories. I had a scrambled egg with cheese, 1/2 cup mashed potato, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, a premier Protein shake and an entire 11 oz bottle of Premier Protein.

What is your Protein target? That is the most important number. But, your calories are extremely low. I can't imagine you are getting in enough protein with such low calorie numbers.

You're still only 11 days post-op of course, and we tend to eat very little in the first month or two after surgery, but realistically, 400 calories is still very low - I wouldn't be worried about getting too many at that level.

My program left things a little vague in the written guidelines - I guess because every person is different - their age, sex, height, metabolism, etc. What's right for a 30yo 6-foot 3-inch male is very different than for a 60yo 5-foot female.... but it was apparent that (1) they expected your calories to gradually rise over time and (2) In the first couple of months, the expectations seemed to be around 600-800 calories/day. (3) for most patients, for your calories to get up over 1000/day within 3-6 months.

I averaged between 200-300 my first two weeks post-op. I was shooting for 400, but couldn't reach it since most of what I was allowed had no calories.

Once I moved to soft foods at 2 weeks, I was given a goal of 600-800 calories, but the Protein number is still the most important.

Can't, or won't?

You should be able to drink 2 premier Proteins by now. It may take all day, but you can do it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
