HELP...urgent advice needed

Recommended Posts

I had my Swedish Band done 5 wks ago and by the third week I had lost 5 kgs, but now I seem to have stuck at this for the last two weeks. I am now on solids and am eating 4/5 small portions a day.

A typical day might be..1 weetabix for B/fast...lunch 1 slimfast or cup a Soup....dinner a small side plate of pork chop salad....late snack either a low fat yogurt or a biscuit. Four cups of Water and 3 brews.

My consultant doesn't think i need my first fill till 6 months post op.

My start weight was 96.8kgs and I am now 91.6 kgs.

I feel a bit disappointed. Am I doing something wrong :cry:help:

Hi Jeannie

Let me start by saying I am NOT a doctor or dietitian, but I was banded by Prof Fried and what I am saying is what he and his team told me.

From your menu, it strikes me that you are eating a lot of "wet" food. The band restricts the flow of food through your stomach, but wet food slips through much quicker(thats why you shouldn't drink for one hour after eating). You might like to try dryer foods like bread or my favourite ryvita as these stay in your pouch longer and make you feel satiated for a longer time.

Also the motion of chewing makes me feel more satisfied. I am guessing you can't chew the the slimfast cup-a-soup, yogurt or weetabix!

Also I have lost weight through exercise. In the early stages it was just making time for 30 minutes walking a day but now I am a member or a gym! However, my weight loss stalled when I started excercising which is apparently due to muscle build up weighing more than fat.

Finally I am trying to eat approximately 1500 kcals per day. When I started weighing everything I ate it was a real eye opener! I was eating far more than I thought.

I hope that gives you a few ideas! Good luck!

Simon

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
