C25k. Keeping myself honest

Recommended Posts

My jp Morgan chase race isn't until sep 28 so I think I will start week 5 over Saturday. I totally agree that the longer times still feel easier than 90 seconds did. Hahahah. I was a little irritated today when I rechecked the date and our office manager told me I am the captain of the "walkers". I was like wtf?? I told her thank you, but I plan on jogging at a minimum.

So I plan to find someone else to captain the walkers. I don't want to not be supportive and I commend everyone who is walking it, but this is a life goal for me. To run in a 5 k. I would have never been able to do this before. I couldn't even walk it. I want to support everyone on the walk, but for once in my life I am going to put myself first instead of others.

Oh and one more thing. If I finish I am going to get a picture taken at the end like I see people having. It will be the first picture I have had taken since 2005 that I will post!!

@@goplay94123 Not sure what your course is like out there, but our JP Morgan Chase race here is actually 3.5 miles, so longer than a 5k.

First of all, good for you goplay!! You're doing awesome!

So, I started the c25k and am on w2d2. Should be doing day 3 today, but I'm hesitant.

While and after I'm done my jog...and for about a day after, my right knee feels uncomfortable. It's not a bad pain or anything, but I can definitely feel it.

Because I've never been a runner, I've attributed it to the fact my knees just aren't used to running. I do, and always have, walked alot.

My question is, is this normal? I would love to continue with the c25k, but not if it means a knee injury.

Just so you know, I stretch before and after, wear good shoes and I'm definetly pacing myself...I'm a very slow jogger still at this point.

I appreciate any feedback you guys might have

Finished week 3 this morning. Proud of myself since I did days 2 and 3 while on vacation in Michigan. Will do W4D1 here as well on Monday. Today I jogged through the final 3 minute walk, so actually did a 6 minute jog and felt good afterwards. Definitely starting to get a handle of how to pace myself... sure there are bug physical hurdles to overcome, but the mental aspect of it is just as important. I applaud the C25k program for being geared to getting you over those mental blocks.

Love the suggested W5 and W6 modification... I'll see how W5D1 goes and decide if I need to modify.

There are specific types of stretches for specific types of knee pain/weakness. So maybe do a little bit of research about the type of sensation you are having and find stretches that might benefit you. I'd be happy to try to help some if you can describe what you are feeling.

Another thing you can do is some strength training on you off days. That can help build up the muscles that support your knee. I have a whole list of ST exercises I do for my knees if you want me to send you that.

@jaimielogical

Thanks....it's hard to describe what the feeling is...it's not really pain, it's just that my knee feels weak for a day after I run.

So maybe it is just weakness?? I'll have to investigate some stretches unless you have some suggestions.

W4D1 done! Feels good as I was anxious... 5 min runs, 16 total mins running, shorter walk intervals... but it was easier than I anticipated. Got into a good groove/pace where I could still breathe well. Turned around at the midpoint and made it all the way back home so ran both halves at a similar pace... now baby steps until W5D3!

I did it! W5D3 - 20 minute run. Can't believe I was able to do it.

On to W6D1 - jog 5, walk 3, jog 8, walk 3, jog 5.

Seems very doable after the 20 minute run today!!

Man, you post a closing comment like that, and I am morally prohibited from pressing like, so I'll just leave you with...GO GREEN!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
