During your pre-op did you think maybe I shouldn't do this? Did you have 2nd thoughts if so why? I am having second thoughts cause of food...how stupid is that?!?!

I don't wanna not be able to eat is what I think. I'm leaving for Vaca n I'm stuck on this all liquid diet while the people around me are gonna be eating BBQ n who knows what else. I'm just so discussed with myself for letting this happen, why in the hell did I do this to myself?!?!?!?!

I feel like such a failure right now. All liquids n I have cheated, eating pickles. God I hope tomorrow is better!!! I'm so moody!!!

Yep, having second thought every other hour lol. Pickles are not a big slip. Just acknowledge what happen and why, then move on.

I think every single person has these feelings before surgery - totally normal!!!! I am doing the sleeve after having had a lapband 10 years ago and even I am scared!! It's just our emotions and nerves.

Good luck, you will be great!!!!

Totally 100% normal. I promise these feelings come and go and you're not alone. Keep the end goal in mind... you're going to be healthier and happier. Surgery isn't a magic pill and you won't drop the weight overnight, but it's a wonderful tool to have in your arsenal to ultimately improve your life and extend it. One thing my nutritionist told me, and this makes total sense, is never to compare yourself to others. I'm actually going on a Caribbean cruise 7 weeks after my surgery (I'm a week post-op writing this) - I'm a little nervous about that, but I'm going on the vacation to connect with family and pamper myself. Hang in there, you're going to do wonderfully!

I had my ups and downs throughout and until they knocked me out day of.

I am 2 weeks to the day post-op... Yesterday I ate a hotdog. Life is good, just 35lbs lighter.

Well said indeed @@Seagull

We all have second thoughts before the surgery. I know I did--but I haven't had a single regret that I went through with it.

the surgery is major, life altering, permanent surgery. it is a big deal, something you shouldn't take lightly. Of course it's something you should think long and hard about, and cold feet are normal. You need to be honest with yourself about whether or not you really think you can stick to the diet for life. Odds are you are just having cold feet and you will be very happy after you heal from surgery. But you do need to seriously think about it

I'm 2 days to surgery and I'm going back and forth with canceling surgery every hour.

I'm thinking I can do it on my own, again.

I'm thinking I can't imagine not being able to eat what I want when I want.

I'm thinking if I regained weight after surgery id probably lose my mind.

Completely normal and healthy feelings to have prior to surgery..

I had them all....

- ill never be able to enjoy food again

- i won't be able to be social because i can't eat

- what happens if i get sick and i need an ultrasound and i need to drink lots of Water

- if i choke on food, will not be able to drink to wash it down

- I'll never enjoy food again

-i can do this without doing wls

-maybe i should do the pre op diet long term

-im not that big, its too drastic

-is being slim and healthy worth cutting off my tummy

-am i just really vain

The list goes on....

Well, let me tell you... i was wrong, i sucked it up... had the surgery, recovered, healed and now i feel normal.... i eat, i socialise, i am living life exactly like i did pre wls... the only difference is that now i get full on smaller portions... and feeling healthier and more confident within myself.

What you are feeling is normal... allow yourself to feel these feelings... and remind yourself as to why you got here to begin with... do a list of pros and cons if you are really considering backing out.

Good luck with your surgery.. let us know how you go

@@Jasminelums everyone has these doubts. But if you are like me and so many others on this board you've dieted and lost a bunch of weight several times, only to gain it back faster each time. Isn't that why you started down this path?

I am surprised to say I don't miss the way I used to eat at all. That's key--I eat less but I'm more satisfied. For most of us it's just that way. The most common regret on this board is that they didn't get the surgery sooner.

Don't let your doubts get the best of you.

I had my surgery May 31st and for someone who went through my liquid diet during the phase when we had a world food day at work, it wasn't easy to say the least. For two weeks I felt like I was going to die or call off my surgery because I couldn't see myself not enjoying food again. What a good friend help me do was download myfitnesspal app and I started using it. On the dreaded world food day, I allowed myself some real food but was VERY strict about it, and for that one day only I ate. I kept it within my food allowance and after that lunch, I went straight back to my liquids and never looked back. I'm not saying that I didn't look back once or twice, I did but tried to focus on my goal. I lost 8kg (17.6 pounds) within those 2 weeks and was quite pleased with it. 5weeks post op, I have lost a total of 21.7kg(47.74 pounds) Don't worry, you'll get through it, have faith in yourself, you will do it. We're all here to get and give support so never fear xxx

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
