He's my doctor!! I'm scheduled for August 3rd. My brother did his sleeve with him and results were great. His staff and program are top notch and he's a great guy. So far preop I'm feeling good about things.

I just started with him in late July. I did a lot of research before choosing a surgeon. He is one of the best in Chicago, and he has had a very good success rate and has done a lot of surgeries. When I met him, I was also glad that he was super nice, not judge-y like most doctors, and really understanding of what obese people go through. I still have to go through 5 more months of insurance requirements before surgery, but it's worth the wait, and I'm glad I chose Dr. Lutfi. :)

Well I looked him up on Healthgrades. It shows his education, experience, and awards and recognitions, papers he has written. And on my first appointment I asked about his statistics. How many he surgeries has he done, how often are there complications from his surgeries, etc. I hope this answer is helpful.

I also found some podcasts that he had been on and listened to him talk (to other medical professionals) about his work, and that was also very telling for me about his competency.

He told me that he has done over 800 sleeves. I know he does the other WLS too. And he does regular surgery too, I believe. I have a lot of confidence in him.

It's based on your insurance or if you are self pay. My insurance requires 6 months of nutritionist appointments on top of a psych eval, pulmonalogist visit, and cardiologist visit. But don't worry, they go through all of that on your first visit.

Did you have to pay anything out of pocket for the psych evaluation or did insurance cover it

I had to pay for all of the psych eval because my insurance wouldn't. However, I did it via bariatricpsychevals.com so it only cost me $300, I think (sorry, it's been a while). I hope this helps.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
