How long is the procedure?

Recommended Posts

I had the lapband placed in 2014 and it was about a 45 minute procedure.

I had it removed 6/23 and it was a 20 minute procedure. I am assuming the sleeve won't be nearly as short as those two because it is more radical. Does anyone know how long their procedure took?

not sure I slept through it! but seriously mine took like 2 hours at least as far as I could tell.

There's I think about 30+ pages of people answering this question here:

http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/326557-how-long-is-the-gastric-sleeve-surgery/

My answer: my surgery was about 90 minutes but it also included a hernia repair and was done by a surgeon who is known to be, let's say, meticulous and methodical in his work rather than running a chop shop in the OR :)

Mine was over 2 hours long. I was a band-to-sleeve revision plus hiatal hernia repair.

It takes about 45 minutes, most of it is setup and closure, the operation itself is very fast.

Search on youtube for videos.

Mine was 3 hours long. I went in to OR at 11am and was in my hospital room at 4pm. I was in recovery for an hour. The reason mine took so long was because he also had to remove alot of scar tissue from when I had surgery when I was a newborn, back in 1981 I had a feeding tube so he said that added an hour onto the procedure. Anyways, you will be in good hands. Good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
