After surgery, when did....

Recommended Posts

1. The SteriStrips fall off your incisions?

2. Your incisions stop hurting?

3. The swelling in the sleeve seem to go down?

6 days post-op and my body is healing incredibly quickly except for minor niggles (see above) so just wondering about others' experience.

I'm 6 days post op as well and I haven't taken any of my bandages off yet...I'm a worry-wart like that. My incisions themselves don't hurt at all, but my abdomen is still sore but noticeably better with each sleep. I'm not sure if you can notice swelling in the sleeve? Can you? I know I feel good other than I have some rumblies some times that are uncomfortable. I wouldn't be surprised if by a week or so I'll be back to feeling as normal as pre-op. This seems like a pretty simple recovering procedure. :P

The incisions never really hurt for me. It was right side muscle pain where they cut through the muscles to pull the stomach out

I think the sleeve swelli ng is probably still there somewhat at 7 weeks out

I only lost one strip prior to my two week check up, I covered it with a bandaid until my appointment.

My incisions didn't hurt either. I did have the pain to the left of my belly button where they removed my stomach. It was more like a muscle pain and that lasted about 2 weeks.

The swelling will go down and drinking will be easier. It was within the first 2 weeks.

I never had any steri strips or bandages. My doctor used a glue over the incision. Never had any incision pain and never had any muscle/stomach pain. I did have some discomfort for a couple days but that was it. I count myself really lucky.

I'm one week post-op today. I was told I could remove the bandages 3 days after surgery which I did and I could shower just don't soap up the SteriStrips and pat themoney dry. I have only lost one strip so far, it's looks like nothing was ever there!! My follow-up appointment is Thursday so I will see what they say!

My incisions have not really given me any pain only slight discomfort from trying to lay on the right side. I can only lay on the left side.

It gets better!!

1. The SteriStrips fall off your incisions?

I had glue, not steri strips, so n/a

2. Your incisions stop hurting?

I only had one incision that ever really hurt -- the drain port site. It took a little more than 2 weeks for that one to stop hurting. It only hurt when I did some significant movement, though. It never hurt if I was just sitting or walking or something like that.

3. The swelling in the sleeve seem to go down?

I don't think my swelling was ever too bad. I was able to get 64 ounces of Fluid and 64 grams of Protein pretty easily within 24 hours of surgery. Within a couple of weeks I didn't have to sip anything and felt like I was drinking normally.

I'm 6 days post-op, too! I feel as though things are going very well, healing-wise, I didn't have steri-strips, but I had glue on 4 of my incisions and bandages over the other 2. All the glue is gone and I took the last bandage off last night, it was itching and driving me nuts. I have one small incision high on my abdomen, right below my sternum, that's a bit tender but the others feel great. I am still quite swollen, though, and have a fair amount of discomfort every time I sip anything. It seems like my skin and muscles are doing fine but my new sleeve is very, very sensitive and tender. I'm on full liquids until 2 weeks post-op but I'm doing more clear than full liquids...they seem to cause less irritation. I figure my body will tell me what it wants and I'm listening very carefully :)

I'm 5 days post op and I feel like I did before surgery. One of my strips fell off. The others are starting to look dirty around the edges. Doctor said not to wash the incisions before I went home. Anyone else notice their strips kinda dirty looking?

Definitely look very dirty looking lol... but I was told not to remove them... allow them to fall off... I'm one week post-op today and have only lost one SteriStrip

One week out - I've lost 2 strips with the very teeny tiny cuts now exposed. 2 to go.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
