Any Cross Fitters?

Recommended Posts

Did a search in this forum and looks like no posts about cross fit for over a year, so maybe not a lot of you on here, or maybe all the CFers are so busy doing squats, they aren't on the forums :)

I have a pretty challenging exercise routine that includes running, pilates, yoga and just good old walking. What I am missing is weight training. Yoga and pilates are definitely strenthening, but everything I'm reading is telling me that women, especially, ahem, us middle-aged women, can really benefit from heavy, heavy weights. I've never enjoyed lifting, I've had trainers work up routines for me, but I just find it sooo boring. About 10 people now have told me to try cross fit, but I'm a bit wary and a bit skeptical, there is a bit of a cultishness about the whole thing. I'm also a little concerned that even though I'm a pretty fit and active person, dead lifting right out of the gate could be bad. The communal/team approach does appeal to me, it sounds like if you find the right place, you can really support each other.

So, any cross fitters want to chime in? Have you enjoyed it or is it something you do just for the workout?

I follow some pretty active crossfitters from here on MFP. Do you use that app?

Like you I run and do yoga and also some biking/swimming for triathlons.

My sister does cross fit and so I've tried it with her a few times and really enjoyed it. But it's definitely not all about heavy lifting... Lots of body weight exercises and such (box jumps, burpees, etc) and you can do a lot of WODs where there's no heavy lifting.

I would do more but I just can't fit it in... Cost wise (I'd have to give up or cut back on yoga classes) or time wise (heavy running schedule for races this year).

Definitely find the right "tribe" one that doesn't encourage and Celebrate a culture of no pain no gain and pushing past limits. Fine one where they emphasize safety! They exist but many crossfit places go overboard and people get injured.

I dibble and dabble a bit in Crossfit. I'm a solo gal when it comes to weight lifting. It's a pain in the you know what but the changes it made to my body I am not going to complain!! ;)

I just started Cross Fit 5 weeks ago. It has DEFINATELY made me stronger in that short of a time. I like that it is different every time you go in and that the coaches are constantly watching to make sure your form is right. My coaches are all about safety and pushing but not pushing to injury.

I am seven months into Crossfit and 8 months post sleeve. I am down 155 pounds and am in the shape of my life. I look amazingly athletic and attribute Crossfit to keeping me from being skinny fat. The community and culture is uplifting and with a good box they will scale to our abilities and make it fun! It has been an important of a tool for me as the sleeve has.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
