Hey there Sep. bandsters. What does everyone have to do as far as a presurgery liquid diet? I don't have to start mine until thursday, but I wanted to start on a weekend incase it didn't agree with my digestive system. So far, it sucks!:phanvan I don't have a sweet tooth, and all of the Protein Shakes are chocolate or vanilla or strawberry. I'm trying several kinds to see if there is one I like better, but so far I don't like any of them. The only good thing is that in 2 days I lost 3 pounds. I know I shouldn't weigh myself everyday, but I did, so there it is. I also figured that if I start the liquid diet a week early, I'll have a little wiggle room if I cheat a bit here and there. But seriously, after 2 days, I can tell this is not going to be fun.:car:

I started my pre-op diet today (Monday) and I have been drinking a chocolate Protein Drink and adding raspberry Jello to it to taste like a chocolate dessert, but... since you don't have a sweet tooth (like I do!) I think they all might taste bad. Have you asked your doctor if you could just eat tons of Protein? Fish, chicken, eggs ect.? It might be just as good... I don't know?

I saw that you are getting banded the day after mine. Where are you getting banded?

I don't have to do a pre-op diet, my doctor doesn't require it!!! Yeah, but I think I will do a liquid diet before surgery with the exception of a small meal here and there, just to help drop the pounds before surgery! Good luck on your pre-op diets!

I am very grateful that the only "pre-op" diet that I have is to try and not gain any more weight before surgery! I had my pre-op visit and nutrition consult on Monday and I should be hearing from the office to find out my actual surgery date by the end of the week! YAY! They did tell me that I could expect it to be 2-3 weeks out from the pre-op visit, so that would put me anytime between 9/3 and 9/14. I can't believe that it is finally happening!! faint.gif

However, for everyone out that that does have to have a liquid pre-op diet, I think you will most likely be better prepared for the post-op diet.

Well, here is my experience so far. It's not fun to do a liquid diet, but in the end you know the more you can shrink your liver the better it is for you, the faster you will heal, etc... That is mainly what the liquid diet is for. Your liver stores a lot of "emergency" fat and glucose. That is why when you start a diet you seem to loose 3-5 pounds really fast and then it gets harder. It's because those first few pounds in the liver are the first to go. Also it's not easy to do a liquid diet, so maybe you can ease yourself into it so if you cheat a little it's not so bad. Good luck!

I went into whole foods today and noticed in their Vitamin dept they had a ton of different Protein Shakes. A lot of them came in single serving packets and since I am getting so bored of the chocolat and vanilla options I grabbed some to try. The was one, I forget the brand, i think it's Apple Valley or something, it was Apple-Cinnamon flavored and it had lots of "vegetable" and Vitamins and stuff and it was only 120 calories with Water less than 1g fat and 15g Protein. And let me tell you, IT WAS GROSS!!:) Avoid it at all costs. Not to mention I have had serious gas all night:sick. That was the worst mistake of my life, well at least the past 12 hours.:rain:

This is the 5th day of the liguid diet and it is not easy. I am not starving or having hunger pains, but I feel very empty. The Protein Shakes are keeping me full and I have lots of flavored water & popsicles. My husband is doing it with me just to be supportive and all we do is talk about food. HaHaHa. We had to quit watching the cooking shows, just to much. Try consume instead of broth it is much better, french onion consume and strain it, add a little pepper, pretty good. The purpose of the liquid diet is to have your body used up all the nutrients in your liver to shrink it out of the way. The added plus is losing weight. I was just doing liquid once or twice a week for a month and lost 8 pounds. I get banded on the 4th and I am nervous, excited and very happy with my decision to do this.

All you have to do is click on someone's ticker chart and it will bring you to that link Let me know if you can't get it, I will try and help more! Also, I cheated a little last night (I was on day 5) we went to the cheesecake factory and I got lettuce rolls, I even skipped out on dessert!!!:) so, overall it was still good, but not liquid... I am now feeling sick and frustrated as well as guilty, any suggestions??? :huggie: Should I keep beating myself over the head or was it not too bad of a slip up?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
