Are sleeved folks able to eat popcorn at any point?

Recommended Posts

@@kadie777, You probably will be able to. Just take the same approach that you do with every new food after surgery. Be sure you wait long enough before trying it, and start with just a tiny amount to make sure you can handle. And, of course, measure out your portions! Also, be sure to go for the healthy kinds like air-popped, and not buttered movie theater popcorn. Enjoy it when you get to it!

I have popcorn sometimes. So far, it does not seem to be a slider food for me at all. I can eat about 1.5 cups and I am DONE. but it is a nice occasional snack.

I was hungover yesterday and really fancied sweet and salted popcorn.. I bought a big bag and managed to eat almost half! Tasted far more salty then I remember but was gorgeous! No problems, no sickness. All you can do is try it.. Go for it =]

I've bought popcorn a couple of times and had no problems. I just made sure that it was a lighter variety and not a ginormous bag so as not to go overboard with the carbs/calories.

popcorn tends to be a "mindless" snack, so it's off my list as dangerous.

Actually, just about every snack that comes in a bag fits that description, really... chips, pretzels, popcorn, crackers... all bad ideas for people with food issues.

No problems? Is that how you see it?

You can eat anything you want!! It's great!

Really? Cause my dr said no more bread, Pasta, or rice ever! Forever is a long time. That has me more scared then the actual surgery pain. Do you enjoy food like you did before just in smaller portions? Cause I'm afraid eating for me will always have to be a challenge from here on out.

Question is can you or should you? I can easily eat Pasta and bread but don't eat it since I am still in weight loss mode. But my sleeve is fine with it. Rice I really can't tolerate.
I understand I can't go crazy with it. But when the put the word forever on it it scared me. I don't plan on eating it a lot because I know it is bad for you. I'd still just like to know that way down the road I could have a couple bites of pasta salad or maybe a piece of toast here and there.

Some can some can't. Some people it doesn't agree with. Some people it agrees with just fine, but it opens a door and raises the "carb monster" appetite which is difficult to tame. Don't think this lack of appetite lasts forever!

Yeah it's nice not having that word forever.... BUT I use it to remind myself I CAN have some toast tomorrow if I REALLY want/need it. And then I don't. Been over 2.5 years and I still haven't. No toast, no pasta salad, no soda. I have a few that I do splurge on and popcorn happens to be one because I can control serving size and frequency easily. I ONLY have it at the movies and ONLY have my measured serving and the kids eat the rest.

With that lifestyle change and avoiding the things I have difficulty eating in moderation (yeah toast was always a HUGE favorite) I've successfully lost over half my weight, wear a size 4 and continue to keep it off.

Not saying you shouldn't take advice from people a few weeks out... I'm sure they know much more than I do

I say if you want something, you should eat it. After all, WLS is tough. You deserve all the treats you can get.

B)

Yeah, good for me. I'm 28.. I choose to live my life. OH WOW I've had popcorn and a few drinks.. I'm going to fail, I forgot you were a doctor, and weren't just a person with your story, and what you did. My mistake. I've seen you on these boards and your general attitude.. Don't come for me.

LMFAO don't. Just don't. I woke up clearly on the wrong side of the bed, and the poster before you was being sarcastic.. And I thought you were doing the same. I'm sorry if I misread it =]

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
